I was wondering if everyone assumes that your doodle puppy is a girl?  Because Chewie is so cute (unbiased opinion of course) everyone just thinks he is a girl.  Even when I say his name and and that he is a boy a lot of people still say she.  This doesn't bother me, but just wondering if it is common ??

I agree. !!. I always get stopped by someone to comment on what a cute puppy. They always want to know what kind of dog he is.
We have the opposite happen. Harlow (granted name is not gender specific) is constantly being called a 'he'. I often get the impression that for some people, any big dog is a 'he'. Even DH sometimes calls Harlow he or him; but then again, he calls our 15 year old male cat 'she' all the time.
Maybe it's because I have two but people do ask if they are he or she. Truly given the hair and certain lack of endowment I can see why people wouldn't be able to tell. Also it is confusing because Calla is younger but bigger. My sister decided to call them "boys" for simplicity when she visited, as in "Come on boys", etc. and they didn't seem to mind : )
The name is a giveaway with Guinness....although I've known plenty of women who love a Guinness or two.
Being as I usually ask what other owners dogs are, most people ask me too, so I think most want to get it right and if not it's just a slip-up or what they are just used to. ( Like THEY have a girl dog and are used to saying "she" "good-Girl".) I know mine wouldn't care or even know what they were saying, but as long as the tone was pleasant they respond to anything. As long as no one calls them bad names (Never!!!!) I don't mind either.
People always think Nugget is a "he"...that's what we get for giving her a co-ed name! My daughter used to get pretty fed up with the whole thing and put bows on her. They each lasted about 8 seconds.
Jasper gets called she all the time . I just assume that people just don't pay attention!
Rosco is big enough he's not commonly mistaken for a girl, but our late great Thule (say Too-lee!) WAS a girl and everyone always referred to her as 'him' -- even though she was 20-30 lbs lighter than Rosco. I think it's because she was black and black dogs are typically more feared and thus probably also mistaken for males.
People used to refer to Timbow as a girl when he was a puppy, but now that he's a big boy most people know. When they do not I simply say his name is TIMbow...really?
People always think Jordan is a boy even with her bright pink collars. Her groomer Doris will say Jordan it is your turn boy!
I am used to it, she has a unisex name and she is shaggy as can be.
YES. Everyone assumes Darwin is a girl, even after they hear that his name is Darwin! He is pretty pathetic "down there" so I think everyone looks and doesn't find anything... how embarrassing for him! lol.
People assume Lilly is a he, I guess because of her size. Now when I see a dog that is cute I always say she..lol
