OK, so this is weird, I think, but since these dogs are so smart, I'm not completely surprised...

On Mondays, my daughter's piano teacher comes to the house for her lesson.  That is the only time all week Nugget has to spend in her crate, because, otherwise, Nugget wants to be the center of attention.  (What else is new? :-) )  At all other times, we celebrate this, but when the piano teacher comes (and is paid by the hour) Nuggy has to disappear.  So....for the last few weeks on Mondays, instead of walking into the main part of the house, she  has walked to her crate after her afternoon walk.  At first I thought "How convenient!" but now I'm thinking "She knows it's Monday!!!!" Yikes!  REALLYYYY?????

So, is it possible that she knows that she needs to be in her crate, or is it coincidence?  Any other stories like this????

Enjoy the day, all!

For a dog to recognize a once a week happening on the right day would be amazing. Half the time I don't even know what day it is : )
hahaha! I was thinking the same thing F!
I would guess that she doesn't know it's monday, but recognizes a pattern in your monday routine. For instance, Whopper can distinguish between weekdays and weekends. After only a few days of adjusting to being left alone while my husband and I both go to work, she now clearly knows on weekdays that we're leaving her and she goes to lie on her bed rather than follow us to the door. Really though, from the moment we get up on a week ay she acts differently than a weekend and I'm sure it has to do with hearing the alarm which doesn't go off on weekends, both of us getting up, my weekend routine is different than my before work routine, etc.
I bet Nugget absolutely knows "this is piano night". When I first got Callie, I took her to work with me every Friday. Then the rules changed for the worse...no dogs allowed. For a solid month, Callie would walk out of the house straight to the car, instead of walking down the sidewalk to have her final bathroom trip before I leave. 1 day a week to the car vs 6 days a week down the path tells me that she ABSOLUTELY KNEW that Fridays were office days.
Do you get anything out for the teacher?? Or do anything different on that day?? If not, I guess just enjoy that she don't mind going to her crate..
We had a miniature poodle who knew when it was Saturday. We were all working or in school all week, and he stayed at home alone with the cat and a rabbit (who all used the doggie door to go in and out at will). However, on Saturday, the schedule was changed and he knew it was his day to go anywhere with us. If he was left at home on a Saturday, he trashed the house, threw the garbage everywhere, pulled the covers off the bed, etc. He knew it was his day and he was mad.
Our dogs now know the weekend days also because we always play "Go get 'em" on Saturday morning with pancakes. My husband hides their pancakes outside while they sit and stay. Then they go get 'em. I don't know who likes the game more, the dogs or my husband. (Take a look on my page, there are pictures.) Then on Sunday, we always go for a bike ride and/or dog walk on the beach. When we get up on Sunday, they watch for the bike clothes and are then ready to go. They seem to know the weekend is here. We are retired and at least one of us at home every day, but they recognize the weekend and special activities. We also walk or ride out bikes a couple of times during the week.
You must have a very structured routine going on mondays for her to know this!! I'm not surprised as they really are very smart. How long has your daughter been taking piano lessons on Monday? Sorry, I don't remember how old Nugget is, but i wonder how long a doodle would have to be in a good routine like that to "get it"?

My poor Murphy is 14 months old and has traveled accross the United States, lived in 3 different houses and an RV, didn't know what state or time zone he was in for most of the first 9 months we had him. The only routines he knows is go to mommy after he eats to get his face wiped and a vitamin, and that when someone picks up the leash, he must be going somewhere so he'll head towards the garage door.
Day of the week.? I'm with F Parker, I hardly know myself.
Webster knows when it is Sunday - he doesn't like Sunday. He gets ignored while we get ready for church and then stuck in the house for several hours - sometimes all day. When he sees us coming out in "church clothes", he just plops down in a corner and pouts. Usually he follows us around waiting to leave (he gets to go with us) but if there are high heels and sports coats - forget it. :-)
I love all of these little stories about your doodles! They are so smart and so attached to their humans! I was talking about all of your replies at dinner tonight and my husband and daughter both think that Nugget knows when it's a weekend day and then when it's Monday again because life gets back to the weekday routine. And since piano happens on Monday, she thinks the crate is what she does after the weekend. It doesn't really explain why she doesn't go for the crate on other days in the week, but the routine thing makes more sense than her "knowing" it's Monday. But then again, who are we to really say what's going on in their doodle brains?!

Thanks for the interesting, fun replies!
Maybe Nugget thinks if if she goes in her crate she'll hear some nice piano music!
Who knows.....these doodles are so smart, something may be giving her a clue.
I often feel sorry for Tucker- thinking he has no clue what's next or what the day will be like. A vet trip, a walk, home alone while mom shops or works, playing ball. a snow storm, agility class, or the weekend ,(yea). I know Tucker knows when I go into the bathroom and start getting ready early in the morning- that it's time for me to leave for work. He almost looks like he is going to cry.
I wonder if they wonder what's next?
Max goes to work with us Mon thru Fri and on Sat he goes to Doggie Day Care. He KNOWS its Saturday...our routine is a little bit different we leave at 8am-8:10am thru the week and at 8:30am on Saturday. 20 minutes difference in time and he knows. He is so excited that he vibrates! On Sunday I get to sleep in...usually until 9am when he realizes its Sunday and we're STUCK at home for the day...BORING!
