Someone posted info on this breed on another doodle forum and I thought it was pretty interesting...so I'm passing it on!
Anyone heard of the Barbet? Very multigen doodle looking!
http://www.americanbarbet.com/ -- notice how they direct folks to poomixrescue.com for look-alike rescues as there really aren't any barbets in rescue since there are so few total.
I once made the 'mistake' of asking a Spinone mom if she dog was a doodle - a HUGE OOPS!!!! Her dog and Samantha could have been twins. She was not a happy camper to say the least!
I have been asked numerous times if Samantha was a Spinone. I happily say nope - she's a Doodle.
They both do look similar to some of them, especially the ones in the catalog that arrived today. One drawback or plus, depending on day & mood, etc., of shopping a lot on line is getting tons of catalogs.
They are really cute! The black one looks like Callie (as do all furry black dogs with very pink tongues). I'm going to claim "Barbet" next time a snobby wenchbag asks me "what is that" in reference to my beloved muppet.
I wonder what the coats on these guys is like. It looks nice. BUT In some of the pictures the hair looks more woolish so not as soft as the fleece hair that my Neely has. It is hard to tell by the pictures on the different web sites.
The one web site I visited that was a breeder was very anti doodle and had two articles on her site. To each his own. I agree with some of that too.
I don't see how to buy a pet on any of the breeder sites. No advertised litters on their sites no $ information. No wonder these guys are almost extinct.
I would maybe have gotten one of these guys or at least considered one had there been more accessible information.
The Canadian Breeder is close by me in another town so may be one day I'll have to go see?
Ann, check this out...
"If you are interested in saving the Barbet Français from extinction and you feel strongly about its history, then wait for a pup. Please email: Stacy Able, for puppy news from the United States of America. You will get what you pay for: genotype and phenotype. Average cost of a Barbet in North America is $2000-$3000. If you import from Europe keep in mind the cost to fly over there and pick the dog up."
Too rich for my blood!
