Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

If you've got Poop in your yard...you NEED this!

Whether you've got one labradoodle, 3 goldendoodles, or some other combo...poop happens -- and often!  I once did the math for how much poop our dogs create in a week and it wasn't pretty.  What we USED to do is shovel it all into a trash can lined with a bag and putting that stinking bag of poop into our trash can every other week.  At best, GROSS. At worst it was an environmental problem putting poop into a sanitary landfill.  It was a terrible solution to the poop problem.

We repeatedly considered those doggy poop composter thingies, but they didn't really seem suitable for multiple larger dogs.  I'd also heard negative reviews about the lids coming off, being stinky, etc.  Not much of an improvement except for keeping poop out of the landfill.  That's good, but the whole process is still pretty gross.

Then we discovered a totally different 'poop toy' (that's what I call it!) that seemed perfect!  I showed the site to Clark and a little while later, he ordered one and installed it and it IS virtually perfect!

This is by far the best solution to disposing of yard poop that I have seen.

Here is the Doggie Doo Drain in all its glory!

The Doggie Doo Drain is an eco-friendly waste disposal system that is very easy to use.  You just screw the Doggie Doo Drain into your existing sewer cleanout.

Simple, clean, and green.  NO stewing garbage pail swarmed by flies.  No stinky trash can!  NO tending an underground poo compost pile!  You just scoop the poop, drop it in and hose it down the drain!  And the poop goes to where poop is supposed to go: to the poop plant that you already pay the city for!

We liked it so much we decided it would be a great thing to bring to all of you on DK.  So we're going to sell them to you in the very near future.  We are working on getting a price discount and putting together some fun prizes for those that buy.  And as always, when you buy stuff through DK, 25% of the proceeds will be donated to doodle and dog rescue. So not only will pooper scooping be more fun, but you'll support rescue and the environment!

Keep your eyes peeled for further announcements...there will be excellent giveaways involved from Kemp Rader of the Doodle Country Store and more!  We'll tell you all about it over the next few days.  So stay tuned for more details about the doggy doo system that will change your life.  ;-)

Doodle Kisses to all,
Adina

PS.  The Doggie Doo Drain is not for everyone.  It is recommended only for those on a city sewer system. (Correction:  It WILL work well with septic tanks and those on city sewer.  The plumber the designed it comfirmed this.  Cool!)  And for some of you in the Great White North... it is more difficult to use during freezing winters. You CAN use it, but your garden hose will be frozen so you would have to pour a bucket of water down the drain to 'flush' all that doggy doo.  But as the great poo thaw approaches...you WILL want something this easy to use!

I was excited by this! but after I checked with my husband, I found that it won't work for us. We live in the city with city sewage, but our clean out pipe is located in our basement.
That's too bad :-(

But if it turns out to be something you really want in the end... a call to a plumber is all it would take to get your very own outside sewer clean out line! :-D
I know that adding a sewer cleanout outdoors would add $$ to the cost of this project, but If Adina and I ever move to a house that doesn't have an outside cleanout, I'd gladly pay to have one added just so we could put our Doggy Doo Drain in it. It works that well. :-)

If you already have a cleanout, this is a no-brainer. Unscrew the cap and screw in the Doggy Doo Drain.
Where do we get one? I had a doggie dooley and it was not good at all for 2 large dogs. I buried it.
We'll sell them here shortly. We are just working out a group buy to save you some money. Plus we want to add some other free stuff to the offer. We'll keep you posted.
What a fabulous idea, it's on my wish list for soon. I do my doggie dodo pick up daily, this would save having a bag hanging around collecting it for the week. I'll be watching for when they come available.
Hi Adina,
I am a Landscape Architect specializing in Animal Environments & Habitat Design so, I know a bit about Waste Management Solutions. First, let me say that Landfills are one of the main sources of methane & other greenhouse gas emissions and not all cities have "Green" Environmental Waste Programs in place therefore in order to protect our planet from any further damage it is our responsibility to research what method of Sewage your city uses before contributing to the problem. Many cities still have landfills therefore, by using this product, you are not solving the problem but instead, adding to the already millions of tons of waste a year. Other cities just dump the waste into the ocean. I say Yuck to that. The new environmentally friendly solution is to convert municipal solid waste into Renewable Energy Sources which can be done on a one on one basis as well. http://www.wm.com/wm/environmental/innovativeprojects.asp

There are several solution to waste management. My favorite is the Water Retention Basin & Bio-swale solution allowing mother nature to filter waste through natural breakdowns of soil and roots from reed plants. If anyone is interested I have some info on my website: http://design2thenines.shutterfly.com/watermanagementprogram)

The other factor to consider with this product is that every time you open the cap, you get a blast of sewer gas in the face. That can't be great for the body or the environment.

In conclusion, If all of these factors can be mitigated I say dump away but, please be responsible.
I am reading some of the articles on your site which are very interesting. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'm wondering if there is a simple solution for homes like mine, which have septic systems, two dogs and limited muscle power : ) Til now I have been collecting the feces and putting it in the garbage, which I think all goes to land fills here in NJ.
I find this to be a great dog waste management solution with very few, if any, down sides.

I was a bit confused by your reference to sewage and landfills together as the same issue. They are quite different issues. This product solves one problem (organic matter in landfills) and does not cause any problem with the other (sewage treatment).

This product takes dog waste out of landfills. So it does not add to the problem, it eliminates contributions to any landfill issues. This is a very good thing.

No city in America puts raw sewage in a landfill. So this product is not "adding to the already millions of tons of waste a year". It reduces landfill contributions. But again, sewage treatment and landfills are two separate issues.

No city in America puts raw sewage into the ocean. I'd say "Yuck" too if that was the case. But it's not. The EPA swoops in and there is a cleanup project if there is a raw sewage spill of any magnitude. So this waste solution definitely doesn't add to that.

As far as a "blast of sewer gas" every time you use this, that simply doesn't happen. Sewer pipes and septic systems are not pressurized so there is no gas being forced out. Neither Adina or myself have ever even smelled a whiff of sewer gas when using the Doggie Doo Drain. And since it is vented outdoors, it is not a problem. Biogases can be dangerous in confined areas. This is an outdoor product so there is no danger whatsoever. Well OK... no more dangerous than a campground outhouse or a fart in church. ;-)

I honestly see no factors that need to be mitigated when using this product. I'm a 'greenie' and I can't recommend it enough.
Please keep us posted on what you work out with them. I did check out their website at www.doggiedodrain.com. But I'll be waiting to hear what you & Clark come up with!
OK...here's a question no one has asked. My dog REFUSES to use our yard, hence he gets to go on 3-4 walks per day (rain or shine). Lucky him and good for me too, I guess:) Anyway, I use biodegradable poo bags. I would still have to use the bags and I guess dump the waste from the bag into the DoggyDoo or because the bag is biodegradable can the bag go in too? Probably not, but it should be asked.
No, bag would not do well in there.
