Reggie is one big mat and is having a shave down tomorrow ( by a groomer).. He is 16 months and his last one was last summer, with a trim in January. He looks like a sheep with very dense fur that is curly at the roots. I can't fight the long coat any more so need advice on the look to aim for so it will grow in cute and fluffy. Should the face, head and tail be left longer and if so, what look should I aim for so he does not look like a poodle. His head, face and ears are not matted. Thanks..I love the scuffy look but resigned to a different manageable look from now on.

Thanks

I too, like the longer hair but am finding that I just can't deal with it. Gracie is just over 2 years. We were doing real well with the grooming upkeep at home but all of a sudden right after Christmas she became a big mat that just continues regardless. I have an appointment for the shearing as well. Definately leave the beard. I think this is the best way to avoid looking like a poodle.
He looks great. You're doing a super job. You especiall did nice on his face. I leave Murphy's face hair longer around the snout only because he has a narrow one and it keep the doodle look I make it fuller and squarer. But Albus has a perfect face for short snout. So much cleaner and easier for combing. And he doesn;t look at all like a poodle.
He is so handsome..any women can tell:) He looks just like a Golden Ret ( the face) and his coat looks velvet. Reggie is a multigenerational but I think he looks more poodle in his coat and face. We will see....
Bella got groomes today, she goes in every 6 - 8 weeks. I have her shaved 1 1/2" all over, but leave her tail bushy and leave her beard and moustache (they only get trimmed). Once we had her beard and moustache cut, but did not like the look - I called her "Fifi". She grew in after that cut and looked adorable. I prefer a longer cut, but cannot stand the messthat Bella brings in from outside. She has an eco-system attached to her fur, after 5 minutes in the backyard.
I just looked at Bella's pictures. She is adorable and I love the cut on the face in the Christmas photos. I am still working on getting it right. It looks like she is trimmed a little shorter or tighter in the back of the snout below the eyes and towards the ears???? That is where I can't get right yet with Gracie. I want to keep it fluffy and not have that long all the same length hang dog look. I guess I had better do a little more work on Gracie's face...lol
Her fur look just tlike Reggie's. I went on your site and think she is beautiful. Reggie has a curlier face but I will aim for that look. If his body could grow out like that I wil be thrilled as he looks so dense and fluffy.
Nooooooo, wait!! Gracie Doodle is an F1 GoldenDoodle and I just groomed her myself yesterday. If Reggie's face is not matted then look at the picture of Gracie and go for something like that if you like it. Please don't shave the face or snout!!! Doodles must have fluffy hair all around their snout. Poodles get shaved snouts and cheeks...not Doodles. Also,if he has a great tail. don't cut it! Gracie is very soft and fluffy though Reggie does look much curlier. She is a wavy fleece coat and it isn't really thick. You may have to take him shorter than I did Gracie. In the summer I take her body much shorter. Also, don't shave the feet unless you have to because of mats. Their feet should be fluffy and rounded and the legs should be a bit longer than the body. Only if you have to to get the mats out then have her shaved. Personally, I will work hours on a mat before I will shave it out. Though, Gracie doesn't mat much as long as I comb her every few days.

Mind you...these remarks are only my personal feelings about Doodles and how they should look. Each one is different and what works for one person may not work for another. Good Luck!

Ann...I just looked at Becky and Bella's page. Go check out the photos of Bella, especially the ones at Christmas time. Now that is a precious Doodle face and perfect cut!!! She looks to be curly like Reggie so maybe she would be a good example for the groomer.
When he was younger, I used a 1" attachment over his whole body and then scissored his face shorter. It maintained the shaggy look but was very manageable. The second time I groomed him, I used a 1/2" attachment on his body and scissor cut his face to 1 inch again.

Darwin is just too cute!! :)
Who is Becky and Bella.? I woul like ot check out their pics. Thansk.
