Like everyone (I think), I pull the hair out of Callie's brush when it looks like there's a bunch in it. I usually put it all on a paper towel, to throw out once we're done with the brushing. Callie always tries to eat it. I of course do not let her, but she ALWAYS really wants too! She's knocked over a trash can before and gotten to it. She even wanted to eat he hair from Wilbur's brushing today. Why does she crave hair???

Wakefield also tries to eat the hair I'm combing out of my other dog if I forget and lay it down where he can reach it. I think it's just that he always to be involved in everything I'm doing and this is his way to be part of it.
Oh my gosh Gaston does this too! I thought it was so weird! I'm glad he's not alone! LOL
Not really sure as to why a dog does this but when I think of dogs grooming themselves/or being groomed... hair eating comes to mind as Cats do and than they will regurgitate the hair. This could make your dog sick, or regurgitate also. I really would try and keep this away from Callie because I have also heard if they get big enough clumps of hair in their digestive tracks it can cause bowel obstructions and surgeries.
Neely does this too. I will be working away and turn around and see his face with a tuft of hair hanging out of his mouth. Something like the look of a cat that ate the canary and had a feather still hanging out of his mouth.
Yes, Darwin does the exact same thing!
Absolutly! It a wonder they don't have hairballs like cats.
Hudson does this too! I never had a dog (before Hudson) who tried to eat their own hair.
Ditto for Achilles, Never understood it. My other dog Houdini used to do it as well. Silly doodles!
so glad Timbow isn't the only one... :)
Yep, Harlow does it too. She is the only dog that I have ever had that does it. I thought it was just my silly doodle.
Yes. We brush Rouser outside using a Kong brush that lifts the hair and then it just blows in the wind in these large balls. When Rouser sees one of those balls go flying, he wants to chase it. I don't let him eat it, but I'm sure he would at least taste it if I did.
No. Ned doesn't do this and hasn't ever. He much prefers paper items!
