Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Took Chewie to be groomed today and for his first REAL FURcut.  His fur was very long...at least 4  or 5 inches.  I talked to the groomer at length trying to be very specific about what I wanted.  I think between me not realizing what a particular length would look like and her deciding what she really thought he sould look like, we have quite the transformation.  He looks like he lost 15 lbs and his legs got twice as long...LOL.  With a much "closer" haircut I can really see the shape of his body and his poodle genes are shining through.  I'm still in shock and although he looks cute, he doesn't look like my Chewie.  My 8 yo granddaughter started crying when she saw him.  I'd say the fur on his body is between 1-1/2 and 2" long..

Well, I know it will grow back and this will be much easier to maintain as he was starting to get some mats.  It will be fun seeing it grow out and deciding what length we like best.  I'll try to post before and after pics tomorrow.

Same thing happened to Lyric back on December 1st. She looked so much like a poodle! It was much easier to take care of, though. Its now 4 months later and she is all shaggy and doodle-ish again! But she goes back for grooming next week. I have drawn a picture of what I want her head to look like so that she won't get scalped this time--hope it helps.
yes, please post some before and after pics of Chewie....I'd love to see his beautiful long fur once again......LOL....
Our medium labradoodle Fenway looks so much like a poodle that most people either ask if she's a poodle or just assume that she is. With her summer do she looks even more like a poodle. I love the shaggy look, but boy does it take more time. The wash and wear look for summer is so much nicer and easier on the grooming side of things.
OH NO, Laura!!! I can really imagine what poor Chewie must look like. We ALL have had one of THOSE cuts. One time I spent 20 minutes speaking to the grooming manager at Petco, and when we went back to pick her up, I wanted to cry right then and there - I waited till I got home. One time years ago I brought my golden to a different Petco, He was reddish colored. When we picked him up he was blond! and shaved!!! My son was so afraid of the poor dog - it looked nothing like him. We both cried then too... it's so hard to get that "doodle cut" especially on their head... many hear oodle and automatically think POODLE - puff... Thankfully it does grow back...
Oh my!! I have to go through this tomorrow AGAIN..I have to keep reminding her that I have a Doodle not a Poodle. After 10 weeks Lillys face is just starting to look doodley again. We might have to compare pictures..=)
Why don't you try doing it yourself? It really isn't hard. I groom Charli myself - poor Charli!! WOL - when she sees me going into the grooming bag, she tries to hide but in a 700 sq ft apt here in Florida, that isn't easy! I make sure she is combed out very well. I cut her with a 3/8" comb on her head and legs and 3/4" on her body. Her face I keep long but I need to learn how to use thinning shears and I do not touch her tail. I keep her sides and her belly long like a 'skirt'. I guess somewhat of a 'puppy cut'.

I always hear "oh, what a gorgeous Poodle! Oh, what's the other one?" I answer sweetly (but seething on the inside) There BOTH Labradoodles. What do they think Samantha is - chop liver???

This is why I am thinking of taking her even shorter on her body. She is a shmutz magnet! I am always taking out pieces of mulch, dried grass and twigs that get twisted into her coat.

we have this same problem with Lucy ..... DH always says she has a "Velcro butt"!
love that!! The visual is much more fun then the reality of a Velcro doodle.
I love the SHMUTZ magnet....they just don't get any cuter !
That picture looks just like Callie after a day at the park when the weather is dry! Of course, when it's been raining you can sub mud in for the dried grass and sticks.
That's what Toby's fur does! Grabs all the schmutz and brings it into the house! He's getting groomed today. :)
Yep, same thing happened to Harlow this week. Groomer did a good job on her body, but shaved her face like a poodle. Ah well, at least it will grow out.
