Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have a friend who has a blonde F1 goldendoodle and a black ALD, both standards. She says she sometimes feels bad for her gorgeous black boy because people make much more fuss over his blonde brother. The funny part is, her black dog is much friendlier and outgoing than her blonde, and would appreciate the attention more.
For those of you who have a blonde and a darker color, do you notice a difference in the attention they get?

Angel wowed the crowds for her first outing today (the vet's office). People cooed over her left right and center! There was one lady who has a Golden Lab mix who just fawned over Angel. She even asked to hold her while I payed the bill. And Angel just kept looking toward me, as if asking if this was ok, that this strange lady was holding her...
For us I don't think it is color so much as size. Ned doesn't get as much notice as I think he would, but I think it is because he is small - 27 pounds and people tend to dismiss him as a little foo foo dog walking by - if they only knew!!! Or, perhaps I just think EVERYONE should notice him because he is sooooo cute! Ned has a great body - he really is a miniature of the big doods and people who actually look at him, fall in love.
I would definitely notice Ned if I was lucky enough to see him in person! He is definitely a gorgeous guy!
Thank you - he sends you a doodle kiss and Jack gets a, "Hey."
We took Marlow to the Farmer's Market this morning and had tons of people coming up and saying "what a beautiful dog" and so on. He does attract attention because of size and the blonde creamish coloring I think! First they say, OMG he is huge and then how do you keep his hair so pretty? LOL (he had to have a bath yesterday after doggy daycare).
When we were at the harbor yesterday, we got more notice with Ned AND Clancy - mostly Clancy. A boy jumped off his bike and rushed over to meet Clancy and wrestle with him. You would have thought Clancy was his long lost buddy! Clancy knew this kid was good news and enjoyed the attention. The boy politely petted Ned too, but the real attraction was Clancy.
Clancy has more of that shaggy "Disney Dog" look, I think, and that appeals to kids and males of all ages, I've noticed.
I agree and he is a big dog - short legs but he has a physical presence and the most adorable 'love me' face.
I know that my local shelter is constantly running specials on black dogs, so there must be some kind of prejudice out there. I think it's a possibility that people psychologically feel white or blonde pups as more friendly than black or other dark colors. Darwin does attract a lot of attention. My guess is because of three factors.

-He coloring
-His size
-Length of his fur.

When we shaved him down a few months ago, we were stopped drastically less than when his hair is long. When we go to our outdoor mall we usually get stopped by at least 10-15 different people. When we had shaved him down? A whopping 2.

Personally, I love all the colors. Black doodles are so shiny and beautiful!
You're right about black dogs in shelters. Part of the problem is they don't photograph well, so people don't respond to their listing photographs. And in the shelters themselves, their facial features & expressions are harder to see in the dark cages & runs. There is also the issue of black dogs being psychologically more "threatening looking" than light ones.
Large black male dogs in shelters are the least likely to be adopted and the first to be euthanized. Such a terrible thing, and so unfair.
