Well, apparently I do.  I look over all of the ingredients before I buy anything for my dogs.  However, tonight I was eating my general mills Basic 4 (by Fiber One) cereal and do you know what one of the preservatives is???..... BHT!
I'm assuming the FDA has pretty strict regulations on the amount of BHT in human food compared to what's allowed in dog food, but should I just throw this cereal away?

This made me start thinking some more about what I eat compared to what my dogs eat.  I won't buy anything with artificial colorings.  Most of the treats I buy are organic.  The rest are all-natural.  Then when I think about all the candy, soda, processed foods that I eat, it's kind of disturbing.

Does anyone else feel like their dogs eat better than they do?

On a better note, my sister's bday gift to Sherlock finally arrived (5 days late!).  She sent me a really fun cookbook full of wonderful dog treat recipes.  Seriously some of these things I would serve at a cocktail party lol.  http://www.k9treat.com/cart/customer/product.php?productid=86&c...

It's a natural mistake. I call Guinness and Murphy "my sons" all the time....but there is also a human son. LOL
I do feed my dog lots of good food. Cheese, yogurt, fruit. When I feed him fruit, such as apples, I eat some too. When I feed him raw carrots as a snack, I eat some too. I don't eat any kind of cereal and I eat a lot of salad and chicken. Have you noticed how much sugar and salt is in our food?? LOTS!! Even though I have some snacks in the house, they are pretty much small amounts for me. I think the only culprit for me is diet soda. I love love love Fresca. And I can't get away from it. It's my only downfall...hahaha! Oh well...
It's easier to feed Callie healthily! She never seems to be working late and grabbing whatever is handy (for me that is sometimes an apple, sometimes a handful of chocolate chips). I'm not a terrible eater (my stomach is unkind to me when I get too bad). My biggest problem is with portion control...my food doesn't seem to come in one bag, with a handy measuring cup! Callie doesn't seem to have a good internal stop sign either, given her desire to eat Wilbur's food too!
I tend to eat healthy and stick around the outer aisles of the grocery store - as they say - it helps keep us away from the crap.

BUT I scrutinize EVERYTHING I give P&T now. But I also was directly impacted by the 2007 recalls. It scared me to death, nearly losing Taquito at only 3 years old. I am spreading the Food Group word on to everyone I can. My mom is finally feeding her terrier CA Naturals. My friend switched to Fromm. You get the point.

Sherlock's gift is awesome by the way!!!!
Jack & I had the same thing for dinner tonight: fresh wild-caught broiled cod. Jack's plain, with a side of Orijen; mine in lemon dill sauce with redskin potatoes and spinach. We both enjoyed it very much!
That sounds delish! Can I inquire about your lemon dill sauce? Ingredients, please!
I'm really a terrible cook; I just mix fresh lemon juice with olive oil, a little lemon pepper, & fresh snipped dill in a ziploc bag, throw the fish in, shake it around, and let it marinate for at least an hour in the fridge before broiling in a shallow oven-proof casserole dish.
We've always been "thoughtful" about what we eat. But after recently viewing the documentary film "Food, Inc"...we're in the process of making some very serious changes to our diets. I'd recommend this to everyone! Since adding Banjo to our family we're both amazed at how much time and thought we've put into his diet. It is a daily topic and we both feel good knowing our puppy is getting the best we can give him. NOW for us!!!!!
