As per Adina's request.... here is a place for us to discuss our thoughts on the new front page. I am still navigating and trying to see how I like it... I will say though - that I miss having the slide show up top!
I love the slideshow, but understand that it's hard to come up with new topics. As much as we adore our doods, there's only so much variety they offer photgraphically!
As for the rest of the layout...it's just one of those things we'll adapt to. As long as I can easily find blogs and discussions, I'm good. and Birthdays. And photos. Oh dear...
Just remember, old timers ;-) ... even if the FRONT PAGE changes...the same content is still there on all of their individual pages:
Discussion Forum
Journal Entries (changed from "Blogs" to hopefully prevent further confusion with the Forum)--I'd like feedback on this. Blog is the correct term for what they are...but members are still posting questions and seeking advice in the blogs instead of the discussion forum. So...I am hoping "Journal Entries" will lend itself to things blogs are meant to do.
Photos
Etc...are all still available via the main tabs at the top of any page.
Thank you Adina, for all of your hard work. This is just the greatest site! I am new to it, so probably wouldn't notice the changes that others would, but I know I just love the slide shows! I do see quite a variety in these gorgeous faces and their parents, when displayed. I appreciate all you do!
I don't see the point of replacing the nice and poignant short word "blog" with "journal entries" - a blog is a blog, so might as well call it that ! Just my personal opinion of course.
I agree...but so many people think blog = anything on the internet. Some people think Doodle Kisses as a whole is a blog, others join and write blogs seeking advice on potty training, etc. My 'hope' is that by re-titling it "Journal Entries" it will be less confusing to distinguish between Journal Entries and the Discussion Forum. No? Yes? I've run out of ideas to keep things where they need to be. Why do I care? I care because we have these two separate sections where people can post--there's no point to it if everything goes in both. I can't change that now that we have 2,506 blog posts.
New idea. There could be some kind of brief explanation, or advisory on the page you get when you go to post a blog or discussion, clarifying the function of each. Somehow this reminds me of the reminder as you enter the supermarket about bringing in one's reusable bags. BTW the current front page configuration is good but you could extend the right and left hand columns to fill the space, since the middle column is longer, and have more discussions and blogs listed.
