Our little 9 week old Bosco's first day home yesterday was wonderful!  He has already bonded with us, took to his crate and playpen perfectly, pooed outside this morning; the only problem I'm having is I can't tell if/when he's urinating.  My last dog was female so it was easy to see when she squatted but even when this guy had an accident on the kitchen floor last night (I placed him down momentarily but he got startled at an unexpected noise) he didn't raise his leg. I had him out twice during the night when I'd heard him whimper but we have a designated area on the rocks and I can't see if he's urinated or not.

I thought housetraining was going to be relatively easy but this not being able to tell if he's voiding is throwing me an unexpected curve ball!

I'll definitely keep it in mind, but right now I'm just so glad that Bosco even ate his kibble in his bowl; on homecoming day yesterday he didn't eat a thing, just fortunately some laps of water. My husband said he tentatively ate a few bites this morning, but would immediately come sit beside my husband afterward. I sat beside him at lunch when he finished practically the remainder in his bowl so once he starts to realize the kibble is mmmm-good and safe to eat, we can advance to treats -- once I'm absolutely sure he's peeing and not just rewarding for "looking cute" :-)
I hope we have as easy a time with training as you have with Buddy!
Believe me we did not have an easy time in the beginning. THere were several times we were pulling our hair out. Once he reached the 4 month mark, things seemed to take a turn. He still occassionally has an accident inside, but I think it is only because he can't possibly hold it anymore. Are you feeding the same food the breeder was feeding? Buddy always had and still does quite the appetite. :)

Just know that there are lots of people on here who have experienced it all and it is such a great resource for knowledge as well as just some pep talk and an ear to listen.
Quincy is 16 mos old and still squats to pee sometimes, but most times he just kind of stretchs out and lifts his leg ever so slightly. I also had to feed Quincy from my hand for a few days after he first came home. He wouldn't eat from his bowl at all.
Wilson will be two years old June6th and still does not lift his leg I am perfectly okay with this
lol
My dog Bruiser was 11 1/2 years old and he only rarely lifted his leg. We had a dog named Bosco too, but she was a girl :) Also, Malu didn't really have much interest in food for about the first 3 weeks after we got him. So don't worry, Bosco will hit a growth spurt and start gulping down the food!
Darwin is over a year old and has never lifted his leg.
So funny....this all reminds me of the Larry David episode where, if I recall correctly, someone walks in on him sitting on the toilet to pee. Oh well, like dude/like dood!
(Sorry, hope I didn't offend any male doodle owners!)
Very cute reference, Susan! hanks for the laugh! We used to watch his show all the time!
