When we brought Maple home we were at a loss what to name her. She
looked like Chewbacca from Star Wars but that didn't pass the vote. We
surveyed friends and family and "Maple" fit, but I always remembered
that Chewbacca discussion and catching my husband late one night after
I went to bed, watching the Star Wars DVD to look at Chewbacca. So we
incorporated it into her "formal" or "show" name even though she does
not have papers. She is "Princess Maple Chewbacca of Ingleside".
When Lucky came along we had our reasons for naming her Lucky but also gave
her the formal name of "Duchess Lucky Stormtrooper of Calverton". Lucky
is white so the Stormtrooper thing fits. We live on Ingleside Drive in
the community of Calverton and Maple is the alpha dog so she's the princess. The weird thing
is that we are not Star Wars fanatics - it just happened!

My husband and I got "Quinn" by scrolling through our ipods. I had the Manfred Mann version of "The Mighty Quinn" and he had the Dead's - mine is better! He looked like a Quinn, and we imagined that in the snow he'd make a good Quinn the Eskimo.

I'm holding out for "Martha" if we ever have a girl doodle. My husband needs some convincing.
Great story! As for Martha, I had a dog named Marge and it was fun. Especially when my brother-in-law brought us a bottle of red called "Marge". I hope you win the vote for Martha :)
I love Martha! I always say your CD collection (or your ipod I guess) is the best place to find dog names! Tell you husband that "Martha" is a Beatles song from the same general era as "The Mighty Quinn", and a song about a dog to boot, so it fits perfectly!
Yep, that's where I got it from! I want to call her Martha My Dear. :)
We wanted to name our dog after a scientist that we admired. We considered Sagan, (after Carl Sagan) Newton, Pasteur, Darwin, Curie (if it was a girl), Freud. We also considered the name Django, (pronounced Jango) which is DH's favorite computer programming language. Oh, and we considered Roger, which was totally random.

We decided on Django, but when we first saw him, he looked MUCH more like a Darwin. I always thought that if he was papered/registered "Darwin, Origin Of The Species" would make a great registered name!
I have a friend who named his doodle 'Noulli' after Bernoulli :)
I guess Bernoulli is more of a math dude than science dude...but close enough =)
I love the idea of scientist names though =)
I love Bernoulli! Perhaps for our next dog. I forgot to add the other girl contender. "Mendel" after Gregor Mendel.
That's funny, because Django is one of my favorite dog names...but not because of computer language, lol. Way before there were computers, there was a very famous and influential jazz guitarist named Django Reinhardt.
that is interesting, my husband is a HUGE jazz fan. I'll have to talk to him about it... he may want to rename Darwin! ha ha. I was always worried that if he was lost, people wouldn't know how to say Django correctly. It looks a little confusing.
Just asked DH about it. Apparently, Django the computer language is named after Django Reinhardt. :-)
I thought it might be. :)
It must be a very jazzy language, lol!
