I am taking Shelby in for her summer cut on Monday! We live in TX and while Summer hasn't officially started it's already in the 90's and humid! It is clear that Shelby is struggling with the heat.... and as an adjustment we are walking early in the morning and late at night... w/ sprinkler breaks :o)
The groomer I have choosen has been recommended by two other doodle owners I've met here in my area. I am excited, am mentally prepared (I think!) for my fluffy doodle to change to a sleek doodle, but I would hate to have a grooming disaster. Shelby is a red australian labradoodle with a wavy fleece coat that currently is about 6-7 inches long.
I am a member of the grooming group, and I have seen some of the resources on how to instruct a groomer to get the cut you want, but I really think a photo would help! I am asking for your help and would love to see all the "summer doodle do's" posted here on this discussion and any instruction advice would be welcome too! I am a first time dog and Doodle owner, so I want to make sure I am prepared and can give the groomer enough info so I am happy with the end product!
Marlow has always been fairly short haired since I adopted him in AZ. Because of the heat there and now in FL, I chose to keep him this way. I love the look of it, and it is easier to maintain. This was a shot of him freshly groomed, but I have since trimmed his ears shorter since they were too long.
I did a blog lst week about Lillys summer cut, if you go check it out I have a before and after pic. I was not pleased with the cut but Lilly loved it and she felt much cooler. The cut was even it was just to short for me. Its only been a week and its growing out already.;) Good luck!!
Here is Buddy after I gave him his "summer" cut. My husband and I prefer him short always but this was shorter than I have ever cut him. I did a 1/4 inch cut, I might do a 3/8 inch cut next time. But Buddy loves it and I think he looks cute! Good luck!
I just went thru this in Austin... You are right - it is already so hot! I'm not thrilled with Lucy's cut, but she is soo much cooler, and it will grow. Let me see if I can figure out posting a pic from my phone, otherwise, I can do if tomorrow from my computer. Good luck!
So it isn't that I don't think she looks cute now, but simply that she isn't the fluffy dog who left the house that day! I was prepared, but wow! And her head looks too big for her body. :)
I still love her, though, and it will grow! She is MUCH cooler in the meantime.
