Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Recently, I have been in touch with a lady whose adopted doodle was diagnosed with a severe illness, and she was interested in homecooking for him. I had to scramble through the discussions here to find those of you who might be able to help her. I was really wishing I had a list of all our Food Group members who home cook for their doodles for easy access.

Since this is bound to come up again, and since we also have many members who are interested in homecooking but don't quite know how to get started or go about it, I thought it would be a good idea for those of you who have had success with homecooking to post yourselves here so that those with questions can find you "Dark Side" people, lol.

Thanks!

I know we have:
Lynne NJ
Jane, Guinness & Murphy
Sue & Murphy
Tammy & Gracie
Diane Marra

Please forgive me, everyone else! This is why we need a list!
And those of you listed above, please feel free to post & elaborate on your routines, too!
I use a South Beach Diet approach for my dog 40/30/30, 40% protein, 30% carb (usually rice) & 30% veggies.
I am big on supplementation. We need to find out what is ailing the dog & then address the diet that way.....poor guy xoxo
I have homecooked and "rawed" for all three of my dogs

I don't think I can count myself among the elect few because I pay "Tammy and Gracie" to do our cooking - I am pathetic!!
You are not pathetic, just busy and I am an entreprenuer!
That you are - I'm just afraid I won't do it right!! I do add 1 T of Flaxseed oil and 1 time released NaturVet multi-vitamin a day
Gracie gets an evening primrose oil cap and a multi vitimin each day.
Yes, I do homecooking for my 2 doodles. I use rice as a base, adding whatever meat I can get on sale. I boil, chicken, ground beef or sometimes use canned tuna. I use canned carrots, canned green beans, add some unsweetened applesauce and cottage cheese. It smells very good and my dogs love it! sometimes I add raw apples chopped up or chopped up hard boiled eggs.
I try to make enough for 5-6 days. They get about 4 cups a day. My Bailey is 55 lbs and Bella is only 40 lbs, so she gets less. Hope that helps!
Karen, this is a good idea. How is the lady with the adopted doodle doing?
The dog is realllly sick; Jane has corresponded with her, and we're trying to get a feel for what might work best right now. It seems that for now, it's better for him to have kibble that's been pulverized with broth added to make a canned food consistency. He can't have rice or chicken, and he probably can't have supplements yet until she gets his digestion & other health issues under control. So at least this way, he's getting all the nutrients he needs, poor guy.
Poor baby! When Hondo was sick the first time with liver failure, the only thing he would eat was routisserie chicken. He was hospitalized for ten days and when he came home it was very slow getting him to eat again. But he has always loved routisserie chicken and still gets it as a special treat. The vet said no dried food because it has been processed too much. I don't think I would try pulverizing dried food - maybe something more natural.
