Just a reminder. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE CHILDREN AND/OR ANIMALS IN CARS during warm weather. The temperature in a car can rise very quickly. Disaster can happen in minutes. If you see an animal or chid unattended in a parked car please make sure that they are not in danger - IF IN DOUBT CALL THE POLICE. They do take these calls seriously and will respond promptly.

With the recent heat wave I thought that this discussion is worth re-visitting.
Too true. I don't even let my dogs stay outside very long now and they don't really want to.
Well I can't even leave my dogs in the car period. I worry someone will steal them or something. But I am paranoid about them.

Just think: heat index in many places today is over 100. Think about how hot it is in the CAR. yuck

Timely reminder, thanks for bringing it up again Andy.
Sad.
There was a story on our news today about a dog who was left in the car for 1.5 hrs in the 100 degree heat yesterday. The poor dog died. My husband said he heard the owner got charged with something (apparently he forgot he had the dog in the car).
Fortunately this one had a happy ending!

This makes one think dogs are smarter than us.
I called 911 today bc some idiot left his dog in the car in bright sun. A friend and I asked around Starbucks and nearby stores, but the owner was nowhere to be found. We monitored for 10 minutes and then called. It was about 80F outside, so who knows how hot it was inside. The police showed up and the officer freed the dog by breaking open the passenger door. The kind folks from Starbucks gave the dog water, which he gulped down. Poor thing, he seemed very confused. The officer said he'd hang around for 10 minutes to see if the owner would show up, or the dog would have to go to the Humane Society. I hope the owner got a big fat ticket and learned a lesson.
Studies have shown that on a mild 70ºF day, the temperature inside a car can reach 120ºF in 30 minutes. On a 90ºF day, the interior of a vehicle can reach 160ºF in minutes.
So the temperature in that car might have been as high as 140! Why are people so stupid?
You did the right thing. How many other people just ignored the situation?

I am glad that the police did take this seriously.
