OK, so I did a search and found some stuff on doodles shreding paper, however no one mentioned their doodles eating the paper that they shred.  Buddy seems to be able to find pieces of paper or take out menus and when it is quiet and I go to see what he is doing, he has actually torn off pieces and they are no where to be found and usually the next day I see it come out in his poop.

Has anyone else had this issue where they actually eat the paper?  If so, do they grow out of it? Is he telling us he is hungry?  We feed him twice a day and then supplement with a couple of treats in the afternoon. I know we have to be more diligent about not leaving paper out but I am really hoping this is just a phase.  He is almost 8 months.

Thanks!

That's interesting! My puppy just turned eight months old last week. And to mark that occassion, he's just started eating paper, too. Is this some sort of strange age marker? He's never done this before.
Banjo loves to eat and sometimes swallow paper. Last week he grabbed DH's money from the night stand and was in the process of eating a twenty dollar bill when I caught him. Tomorrow when I'm at the bank I'm going to see if they'll exchange a torn in half, corner nibbled off $20 bill.....that the dog ate for a nice smooth, whole $20!! DH continues to moan about how much money this dog is costing him! : P
Holly eats everything she chews, especially paper! I'm not sure what it is about it, but she loves it. Actually she'll eat anything on the floor that's small. We're always really careful about picking stuff up, but she still always finds something!
Well Oliver has eaten paper since he was a puppy, and he loves the wallpaper in my office and kitcken eating area. That is grasscloth, and very expensive, so I was not happy about that one bit. He will eat tissues, paper towel, any kind of paper except newspaper, he doesn't seem to like that kind...I have to watch him all the time. Bit he never does these things when we are with him, oh no, he does this when we go out. He is getting better I have to admit that, but Oliver thinks that anything at his eye level is faiir game. And he is a tall one, lol...
Shelby really enjoys the shedding part of paper. To my knowledge and observation she has not ingested any of the paper, it is usually all ver the floor or in her mouth playing "look at what I've got mom". She is a laundry their, but only steals and chews, does not swallow. :o). LOL
Tucker loves shredding paper. He doesn't usually eat it but it does happen sometimes. I remember eating it more when he was a puppy. I always say if you give him a paper plate with some gravy on , he would thing it was a great meal!
Thank you everyone for the responses. Right now we are just going to try our hardest to keep paper out of sight and Buddy in our sight. It is hard to be upset with him especially when he did such an awesome job in our first Intermediate class tonight. :)

We are really hoping this is just a stage! The paper eating that is. :)
OH, Melissa... you need to look closer..LOL I know there have been many discussions on that. But I will save yu the trouble of searching! YES! YES! and YES! Tori EATS the paper. I was actually jealous at some time that other doods just tore it up. Tori's favorite delicacies are tissues with a side order of napkin or paper towels, wipes, anything she could get. she is 2 years old and 4 months and although she doesn't do it as often (or really WE have gotten better at not giving her the opportunity)... but YES! still she indulges. Usually the paper towel will come back up during the night, and at times we find it nicely 'twisted' as it exits the other way. (BTW ~ Tori has also swallowed a hair scrunchy, chewed and swallowed a piece of a Yankee hat, shoelace, boy scout neckerchief..... you get the picture)
When I think of my puppy at 8 months I literally cringe and the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up....it was BY FAR the worst part of puppyhood for the pup, me, and my husband. I would tell my puppy daily that I was going to get rid of him (of course I didn't mean it, but he was just SOOOOOOO BAD). He calmed a bit around 5 months and then 8 months hit and BAM...monster puppy. He got into everything and had more energy than any living thing could possibly have. When he was around 8 months it was Christmas time so you can imagine how fun the whole Christmas tree experience was. It is most definitely a phase and a test of your patience lol. We walked him constantly, ran him outside, and took him everywhere we could to tire him out. By about a year he calmed down a lot. It will end, I promise!
Oh Yeah! I think this time period in a puppy is soooooooooooo much worse than a 'human child's' terrible twos - LOL (I constantly said 'I can't take this, she's outta' here - then my kids thought I was serious (I may have been - lol) so I had to stop vocalizing it and kept those thoughts inside!
My dood Emmett is almost 4 years old. His favorite thing in the whole word is a used napkin. He can "smell" paper products in another house. I had to get a P.O. box for my mail because he would grab the mail coming through the mail hole in the door and eat it. Explain that to bill collectors. "My dog ate my bill."
LOL Now that can come in handy! Funny!
