My boy, the Klutz!!!

Duke has a sweet, loving disposition but boy is he hazardous to my health!  Here are a few examples of recent displays of klutziness.

While we were on vacation recently, Duke injured me quite a few times.  I wanted to shoot  some video of him playing at the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado.  I was probably about 30 feet or so from him when I called his name.  I saw he was running toward me so I turned my back to him and kept walking.  BIG MISTAKE.  He hit me full speed and took my legs out from under me.  I landed on my behind..HARD...right on my tailbone on the hard packed sand.  It jarred me all the way up my spine and my teeth clacked together.  (I am now starting to feel better and it doesn't hurt as much as what it did.)  Luckily it didn't bother me much when I was walking.  Just sitting, standing, and squatting.  The next thing he did was a couple days later.  I was sitting on the ground watching the dogs play at the base of a waterfall.  Duke picked up a stick, started running toward me and scratched it along the side of my neck!  Later he came up to stand beside me, I was still sitting on the ground.  Something grabbed his attention and he jerked his head around and hit me right in the mouth giving me a fat (bleeding) lip.  The day after we arrived home from vacation, Duke and Sheba were playing in the back yard.  Next thing I knew they were running toward me and Duke almost plowed me over again!!  I was able to lift up one of my legs and jump to the side to get out of their way.  That sure didn't help the pain in my tailbone!  Today I was playing with Duke.  He raised his paw up and scratched me down my face. (He's done this many times)  ARGH!!!!  These are just a few examples of my boy's less than graceful moves.  I could write a book!  How about you, do you have a klutzy Dood?

In another discussion I asked for suggestions on a collar that would make Sheba look more girly.  I haven't chosen on for Sheba but I did see one that may fit Duke.  What do you think?

In all fairness to Duke my hubby and I do have our moments of klutziness.  On vacation, Hubby was crossing a river and holding onto our good camera.  He was almost made it across to the other side but slipped on a slippery rock and he and the camera went under.

Camera no longer works.  While sitting by a pretty lake (still on vacation) I sat on a fishhook.  Hubby got it out. By the way, this has nothing to do with klutziness but more a matter of some of the dumb things that happened on vacation.  A stone flew up and hit the windshield of our vehicle.  It's now in the shop getting a new windshield!

Got any funny stories to tell???

So funny....I love the stories of our big, goofy Doodles. I actually have one of each. Guinness is as graceful as they come....he sort of prances when he walks, and he was awesome at agility. Murph....OMD that's another story. There's not one ounce of grace in his big, clumsy body. He falls...all the time (and one of these times he's going to really hurt himself). He runs down the stairs and trips over his own big feet, tumbling down the rest of the way and landing in a thud at the bottom of the stairs. Guinness always smiles when this happens. Last night I was in bed watching TV, and Murph went downstairs so DH could let him out to go potty. When he came back in, he raced up the stairs and leaped onto the bed landing right on top of me. It hurt...really bad. Do you think I got mad at Murph....nope, just DH (I really don't know why I would even think it was his fault). They should come with warnings...BEWARE, DOODLES CAN BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH.
Me too, I love these stories! I can definitely relate! Sheba is in the room laying at my feet and she looks at me with a confused look now and then. She probably thinks I'm crazy the way I'm laughing. I also agree that doodles should come with warnings. lol Thanks for sharing your stories Jane!
Geez- what a shame. Duke certainly looks innocent in his picture. These guys and girls)run so fast and are so strong I guess it's hard to put the breaks on sometimes. Tucker has never run into me but has knocked down my grandson more than a few times. just walking by him. Tucker gets so excited when the kids come over- and he is very "wild" for the 1st 15 minutes or so. Yes I have gotton the head wack in the face- almost cried it hurt so bad. Hope you feel better soon. Ouch.
Thanks for the well wishes. I am feeling much better. : ) I agree, it is hard for them to put on the breaks. I hope Tucker NEVER knocks you down!! Thanks for posting!
This could be my story! I had a similar incident a few years ago when Yoda came around a corner of our house and took me out like a bulldozer. I also landed on my tailbone, but thankfully it has a good deal of padding and came out alright, haha! I did however injure my wrist trying to catch myself and both of us got skinned up pretty bad on the sidewalk. Yoda didn't have skin or hair on the inside of his leg for quite awhile after that incident. The worst part was that I was about to leave for a dinner show and was wearing a dress and heels. I literally stood in the bathroom laughing and crying at the same time while trying to keep the blood off of my clothes! He is clumsy all the time though. We have what we call "defensive measures". If Yoda is jumping up or coming towards us, you better grab a pillow or put an arm up or else he is going to get you somehow! He beats me up pretty much everyday when he is trying to love on me. He also has no spatial awareness and runs into walls, tables, furniture, etc. Sometimes he hits himself so hard on things we are sure he is injured, but he always acts like nothing happened. The worst is when he gets to playing with another dog at the park and takes out some poor bystander who just happened to be in his way. This happened a few times, but now I can usually anticipate it and warn the person when I see him coming towards them. Gotta love these big clumsy guys!
That's terrible! I'm so glad you're OK!! I too am amazed that they don't act like they are hurt when they take a bad spill. Duke ran into the car once when he was racing down the driveway. I thought for sure he hurt himself. I cringed when I saw that happen. He didn't make a sound. He just got up and walked away. Luckily he, and the car, were fine!
Penny's a klutz too, she can be walking along, notice something out of the corner of her eye and crash into the wall or the the coffee table etc, to a loud thud. Never bothers her though, as we say "Where's there's no sense, there's no feeling!"

And she's always tripping over stuff, and often when she's having a scratch, she'll fall over on her back. She's not what you'd call focused!

But Ann...Ouch. Doesn't sound so much Duke being a klutz, more you being accident prone. I hope you repair easy!
Snickers runs beautifully in flat land, graceful and V fast I hunkmit is the setter in him. BUT get him in the house with stairs he is such a clodhopper. We have a trilevel so there is a set of 5 stairs going down to the family room. When we throw the toy down he skids across the wood floor leaps an tumbles down the stairs THEN on the way up he inevitably trips over the toy he is bringing backnto us and falls UP the stairs making a huge commotion.

He also runs into the side of the walls when he is tearing through the house at full speed. I am not sure he is the best peripheral vision or if it is the hair that hangs down in his eyes!
Yes Penny chases balls into our kitchen that has a laminate floor and crashes into the cabinets, we of course worry about her hurting her legs, but it is funny, and she really doesn't care. Something else that I forgot to mention, when we're walking around the neighborhood on-leash, Penny will often get distracted and fall off the curb, often face-planting onto the road. She doesn't have hair in front of her eyes, so she has no excuse.
Kevin, maybe you shouldn't throw the balls into the kitchen. Did you think of that?!?!? lol
I usually don't have hair in my eyes and I've stumbled off curbs...quite a few times. Luckily I haven't landed on my face. Give me time, I'm sure it will happen! Penny and I are like peas in a pod! :)
I can just imagine this happening Robyn! So funny!
Thanks Kevin, I'm feeling better. Ummmm, you're partially right. I am terribly accident prone. I warned my husband before we got married that I had the worst luck! I think he's finally starting to believe me. But, that being said, Duke is definitely a klutz, no doubt about it. I've had several dogs throughout the years and none of them were like him.

I can just imagine these things happening to Penny. It's probably because she's blondish? I feel her pain...
