I love to read and I have "downstairs" books and "upstairs" books. The downstairs ones are the more serious ones, or the more contemporary novels everyone reads. Upstairs though, is a whole different story. These are the books in my "I wouldn't be caught dead reading this on an airplane" category. Topping the list for me is the Twilight Saga. I loved these books. They tapped into some small reserve of teen romance and angst that I wasn't aware that I possessed.  My embarrassment over these books has nothing to do with the books themselves. Everyone I know has read them...including my friend's 12 year old daughter and all of her friends.

One of my friends "confessed" to reading the Vampire Diaries books with such angst that I thought she was going to tell me she was having an affair.

My first love is dark, twisted books like those by Jeffrey Deaver or I love reading non-fiction books like biographies or anything pertaining to children's learning but my guilty pleasure books are children's picture books and literature. We still read to all our children and nothing makes me happier than sitting down with my little guy and reading Max and Ruby or Where the Wild Things Are and don't even get me started on the American Girl series. I love them all!
ok so my niece was reading that Twilight series, I wanted to connect with her and she kept talking about them. So being the good aunt that I am I borrowed the first one. I figured I would read the first one just to talk to her. Well! I read all of them I could not put them down.
same experience with me. My friend kept bugging me to read them, I got the first one... and quickly got sucked in. :-)
My Guilty Pleasures? Please I am trying so hard to give up guilt. So just plain fun stuff - Harry Potter, of course. The dog and mystery series by Laurien Berien, so fun it was only ever published in paper and no additional titles will see print. I may be her only fan. Robert Parker books. Anything like The Da Vinci Code and there are lots of copycats out there, some really good. The only one that comes to mind right now is The Genesis Experiment. Any of Dean Koontz books that feature a golden retreiver, The Watcher remains by far my favorite.

The laugh out loud books featuring Stephanie Plum, One for the Money, etc by Janet Evanovich(?). All of the Dick Francis books, including the new ones, coauthored (or perhaps written) by his son. The Wizard of Oz books still bring me pleasure although I know them by heart.

Can't read horror or true crime, gives me nightmares for weeks. When I first read "Gone with the Wind" in my early teens, I actually crossed out the ending in the book and wrote my own - it was a library book. I like happy endings, the good guy triumphs, books are comfort items for me.
Guilt?? You must be kidding. My kids are gone and I read anything I can get my hands on. I definitely don't feel guilty about reading, but sometimes I have problems letting a story go when I go to sleep and I keep hashing it over at night. Have to be careful about what I read right before I go to sleep.
I read way into the night and feel guilty because the light doesn't keep my DH quite awake but he doesn't settle all the way either. Sometimes I use a book reading light and a barricade of pillows. There is my guilt - not enough to not read late though.
Same with me. I put the puppy to bed about 8:00 and head to the bedroom (unless we are hot tubbing) and start to read. My DH gets tired of T.V. and comes to bed sometime later and I continue reading with a night lamp. He says it doesn't bother him, but I know it would bother me. You are right, that is my guilt.
Went by Borders today on the way to the beach and got some new books. Can't recommend any yet, but soon....
Call me strange, I read all of the Twilight Series and they were, Just Okay. Bella was so much a teenager I wanted to reach through the book and pinch her to say, " Stop Whining. Stop the Drama"
Oh shame on me.

Harry Potter. I LOVED the books. I wish there were more. I bought one on my honeymoon. Hah. I did not care for the movies but the books I read twice.
I don't really feel guilty about this read, but mildly sheepish because they are sooo geared for children. I just read the whole Percy Jackson series and loved it. It started with me wanting to see if it was age appropriate for my nephews and then I worked my way through the whole series. They are very fun, especially if you were a geeky kid like me who loved to read stuff about greek g-ds!
Hey, I just barely started to read the first one today! My siblings have been telling me to read them. :-)
