Sorry, this doesn't have anything to do with Doodles other than one Doodle mom feeling enraged!! Some of you may have heard me mention, in my previous posts, my neighbor who always has had Dachshunds and always named them Emily. The current dog Emily3 was adopted from a rescue more than 2 years ago. She came from a difficult situation and we were all so happy that she had found a great forever home. The neighbor made Emily3 clothes and walked her all the time. Tara and I and DH walked with them as a small pack to get the dogs used to being around other dogs and people, etc. We are not actually friends but just kind of run into each other while walking and chat and walk together.

WELL, today DH was walking Tara and ran into the neighbor but no Emily. When asked where Emily was she replied that Emily had been adopted out.  DH of course was stunned! When asked why she said it was because her husband had gotten new hearing aids and when Emily barked it HURT HIS EARS!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!

I don't want to do anything that will get me arrested so I thought telling you about it might help release some of my rage!!!

It is just so sad...poor little Emily...starting all over again. I just hope that her new home is truly forever and that they appreciate and really LOVE her!!

Thanks for listening!!!

Oh, and one more thing. She told DH that her husband just got a new job and if he isn't home enough she is going to get ANOTHER DOG!!!!!! (Raging now!!)

Thank you for your moral support and generous offer (on behalf of all DKer's) of financial support as well. As for debarking, I think we could start up a whole other discussion on THAT matter. Maybe it is just a West Coast thing. Besides my neighbor, I know of one other family friend who had it done to their dog many years ago. So that is TWO that I know and I really don't know that many people. It may be more common than we realize. They make the most pitiful noise. :>(
I have a friend who has an adopted collie from a collie rescue group who had been "debarked". He sounds pathetic, like a very soft, hoarse, wheeze-y cough when he tries to bark. He was debarked by the "breeder" as a puppy because she had too many dogs on her property and was afraid the barking would attract attention, so she needed to keep the dogs quiet. I've heard of this a lot with the Amish mills, too.
At least if a vet does it surgically, it's less painful and barbaric than the way the mills do it; I won't sicken anyone here with the details, but if you do a search in the discussion forum, you'll find it...be warned, it's painful to read. There is quite a bit of discussion out there in the cyber-doodle-world that this was also done at Rutland Manor.
Oh dear, oh dear...How very sad but truly I am sure your neighbor is oblivious of her folly and quite unaware that she has upset you so. I, and like so many others on this site adore all kinds of animals and think I would even go so far to say I would fight to the death for my doodle girl...Sadly, this is so not the way it is for the majority of dog owners (except for every member of doodlekisses:) I have (had) a girlfriend, who used to change her dog everytime she changed the color scheme of her home...so that they matched!!!! Can you believe that one?? And truly, money was no object, she did not work and redecorating her home every couple of years...was her hobby. Anyway, after dog number two was sent to the pound because she changed her color scheme...I very quickly lost her telephone/email number and never ever acknowledged her again. If she never knew in her own heart that what she was doing was terrible, then by me even bothering to waste my breath...would have only upset me more. To this day, I am sure she has absolutely no idea as to why I struck her off my "friends" list and I am sure she is happily on dog number 6 by now. People are cruel and heartless and there is far more worse than your neighbor....but it is people like us that make the world go around and since I got my puppy I have surrounded myself with many new wonderful friends who think and feel like me....Sorry this one let you down...
Oh boy! She would be on my ex-friend list too! That is despicable! I think what happened today just blindsided us! There was no indication that there was any issue or problems with Emily3...and then she was just...gone!! Someone said to me once that there are dog-people and there are people who own dogs. And they are two TOTALLY different "breeds" of people. Thanks to all of you- my "dog-people" friends on DK for helping me sort through this!
I like that one "people who own dogs" and "dog people" I think I would classify this entire website as being a site of "dog people" :)
I think THAT is probably closer to the truth! :>)
I can't believe this. OUTRAGEOUS.
