DNA Testing?!?

I posted a discussion a year ago or so about Harlow, my rescued dog that we think is a doodle. For what it's worth, most of you thought she was a doodle, with goldendoodle trumping labradoodle. I think so too.

 

Anyway, I had considered getting a DNA test for a long time, but they are a bit pricey just for curiousity's sake. Well, I ended up purchasing an extensive DNA test (Wisdom Panel Insights) on Ebay at a great price.

 

Harlow's cheek swabs went in the mail yesterday! We will know her DNA results in probably 2-3 weeks. I'm excited, yet skeptical. Some people have claimed they knew (or really thought they knew) what they're dog was mixed with and DNA tests got it wrong. I know these tests are not 100% accurate but it is interesting.

 

But I was wondering...has anyone tried a DNA test or know someone who has and what were your thoughts and opinions on it? Of course this is really just all for curiousity and fun. We love Harlow no matter what she is and so does her mini goldendoodle buddy, Oliver!

If Harlow is not a doodle, I will be shocked!!!
Most of the people I know that have run a DNA test on their dog have dogs that you really can't tell (like multiple mixes combined). So when you get the results, they could say anything!

Whatever she is, I think she's beautiful! But, fwiw, my guess is goldendoodle, she has those soulful eyes that both my goldendoodle and my golden/collie mix have.

She is beautiful and I'm sure she's a Doodle! I tested my F1 Labradoodle that I knew was a Labradoodle and it came back showing Labrador and Poodle only. I think when it's 2 purebred dogs as parents they're probably more accurate than when there are multiple breeds involved.

If she's not a Doodle I'll be quite surprised!

My guess is goldendoodle as well. She's got the look! The results should be interesting! She is absolutely gorgeous!

If Harlow is not a doodle I'll be really curious as to what she is. She totally looks like a doodle and if DNA should say otherwise she is still absolutely beautiful.

Harlow sure does look like a goldendoodle to me!
I would be surprised if the test said anything else...
If you take a look at the pics of so many of our doodles...many of them have a similar look...that can't be missed...and just capture your heart!!
My girl Sasha is an FI doodle...and the resemblance to Harlow is amazing...
Of course...it won't matter what the test will say...you love your girl...and she is absolutely beautiful!!

I thought that too! I don't often see doodles as light as Harlow or Sasha. A few people mentioned before that Harlow even looked like she could be an English goldendoodle, although I assume that is less likely. And thanks Susan and Shelly! Your dogs are gorgeous too!

Harlow actually could be an English Goldendoodle.
Sasha's Dad is an English Golden Retriever...white... and her Mom is a white Standard Poodle.
That's why she's so white...as is Harlow.
The English Golden Retriever's muzzle is slightly wider and shorter...with a "boxy" forehead...which gives them that "teddybear" look. Their chest is slightly deeper...and their legs are somewhat shorter...which gives them a more muscular look than their American cousins. So...unless they take after their Poodle side...even when cut shorter...they won't have that long thin leggy look...but will look more filled-out.
Who knows...maybe she does have some English in her? I don't think it would be farfetched...
Harlow certainly did find a wonderful family to live with...who loves her so very much...didn't she??
That must mean that she is a "VERY SMART DOODLE"...which is another trait of "ALL" Doodles!! Lol...
