Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My dog, Bluto, has had 2 seizures in the past year.  He has had a full blood work up last year after the first one and thyroid was normal and all other underlying causes ruled out.   He had a second one today and he is off to the Vet on Friday for another round of testing.   Has anyone experienced any history of seizures with their goldendoodles?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you -

Roslyn

I'm so sorry to hear of Blutos health challege. There is a "Seizure Disorders and Epilepsy Group" in DK. I believe you can get some good advice and support there. Good luck and best wishes to Bluto.
Thank you so much : )
And here is the link: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/seizures?xg_source=activity

You will get great support from that group. Keep us posted! I am so sorry about Bluto.
Thank you Allyson..I am certain he will be just fine : )
I hope Bluto is OK. I think you'll find a lot of ideas and support in the Seizure group that others recommended.
Gordon had his first at age 5 and has not had one since. The vet let us know that sometimes it just happens, he could have more or he could never have another. When they did his bloodwork they said the only thing he noticed is that he was a little dehydrated (it was during this really hot summer). Since then, whenever we feel like he might be getting hot we push him to drink more water and I've been giving him watermelon to up both hydration and sugar levels. He hasn't had one since... The odds are very good you just have a dog prone to seizures (has epilepsy). Hopefully they stay infrequent - I wish you the best -- I know how terrifying it is when it happens!
Thank you Amy....yes dehydration was definitely considered last year when he had his 1st so hopefully perhaps this is the same underlying cause. I was not home at the time, however my parents were visiting and did say 'the top of his head' was very warm...almost hot to the touch when they found him unresponsive on the floor'...will keep a close eye on him and heed the advice of his vet.

Thanks again : )
Hi Roslyn- Bella has been having seizures since January - averaging about 1 a month. After the thrid seizure in the first month our vet put her on Phenobarbital which slowed down the seizures but didn't stop them (his goal was/is 1 seizure a year) so he added Potassium Bromide. My goal now is to get her off the Pheno completely and on only the Pot. Bromide due to the damage Pheno can do to the liver. Bella is only 3 so she could be looking at about 9+ years and the long term use of Pheno just doesn't sit well with me. Once on the Pheno it's a long-slow process to get them off it so in that wonderful "hind-site" I wish we would have insisted she be put on the Potassium Bromide from the very beginning. Bella's last grand mal seizure was July 4th and she started on the Potassium Bromide on July 6th. Please let us know how Bluto is doing.
Thanks Rae -- good luck with Bella. Will keep you posted.
Hi Roslyn
Our 2 1/2 year old doodle, Toby, has been diagnosed with epilepsy for seizures. He is on phenobarb and potassium bromide, but still has seizures. He has had 6 seizures since June, with the most recent being last weekend. He started having seizures last November. There is very good information in the Seizures Disorder group. Still difficult to watch, but has been very helpful to educate ourselves and learn as much as we can about this. We are sending lots of doodle hugs to Bluto! Keep us posted.
Thank you for the doodle hugs : ) Sending some back to you and Toby ..... I hope he can manage and have a happy doodle life.

Will keep you posted
What did the vet say??
