Meet our little foster doodle, Petunia!

We recently received a flower delivery in the form of our little foster flower, Petunia.

We have been calling Petunia, Cadi (pronounced "Kay Dee").  This name was given to her by her other foster mom, Kim.  (Kim is a member here on DoodleKisses under the name of Kim and Clifford)  Kim picked Cadi up from a shelter in West Olive, MI.  Kim had to drive 3 hours to rescue Cadi.  I thought it was clever how Kim came up with Cadi's name.  She drives a black Acadia and that is where they first bonded.  So, she came up with the name Cadi.  I decided to continue to call her Cadi as she seemed to respond to it (I like the name too!) and it's awfully hard to get the name Petunia out of my mouth when I see her doing something wrong!  I do love the name Petunia though!  Kim, her family, and her big red doodle, Clifford, miss her and check in with me often to see how she's doing.  Thank you Kim for helping Cadi!!!!

Cadi was rescued August 20th by Kim for the Doodle Rescue Collective.  She stayed with Kim and her family until August 28th when we met in Toledo, OH to pick Cadi up to foster her.  I could see that Kim and her husband were sad to see her go, and I felt sorry for them.  I knew that soon we would be in the same position and that we would be the ones that would be sad to see her go.   They said good bye and we climbed into the car to take Cadi on the next leg of her journey.  We took a crate for her but I decided to hold her on my lap for the hour long trip.  She was content to lay on my lap and fall asleep.

Cadi was found as a stray at approximately 3 months old and placed in a cage that was too small for her, due to overcrowding at the shelter.  Because of the time she spent in a cage that was too small for her she had a difficult time walking and would limp and fall down at times.  She was also very under weight and only weighed 20 lbs.  She developed kennel cough and an infection on her inner ear flaps.  I am happy to announce that Cadi's walking much better and the vet thinks she will be fine.  The infection on her ears is gone and I believe she is almost over the kennel cough.  She is now up to 27 lbs!  She is still very boney and needs to gain more weight but she has a great appetite and has no problem eating all of her food and trying to gobble up Sheba & Duke's food too!  She wasn't happy at all about getting her anal glands expressed.  OUCH!!

Here are a few words to describe Cadi...friendly, inquisitive, curious, mischievous, high energy, playful and sweet and sometimes a bit independent.  She likes to cuddle but after a little while she runs off to check out something else that has grabbed her attention.  

How soon I had forgotten that just last year we were going through potty training, and puppy training with Sheba and Duke..at the same time!  Cadi is a typical doodle puppy.  Thank goodness with all she's been through in her short life it doesn't seem to have affected her too much.  Although right now she seems like a delicate little flower....don't be fooled!!  She can hold her own, just ask Duke!!  We are working on crate training, potty training, learning the word "NO", sitting patiently when waiting for a treat (and not stealing it from Sheba or Duke's mouth or from my hand), ringing bells to go potty, no jumping on people, no counter surfing, no dragging the full water bowl around and spilling it all over the floor, no eating of mulch, no chasing of cats, (she likes cats and isn't aggressive toward them), no trying to run out the door, no shredding of outdoor plants or pulling my hens and chicks from the ground and carrying them in the house, no knocking down the doggy gate etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.  Does any of this strike a chord with any one???  Poor little Cadi, she just can't have any fun!!  lol

Cadi does very well in the car and doesn't seem to get stressed or car sick.  She seems to have a low or no shedding coat at this time.  My Sheba sheds lightly and I really haven't noticed any extra hair floating around.  Cadi has a beautiful, shiny, black, soft yet wispy coat with a little splash of white on her chest.  Sometimes when I talk to her she does the head tilt.  She also crosses her front paws and does the doodle pose.  ADORABLE.

Yes she did and now I have no excuse for my pictures of Charli looking so rotten! Of course, Ann has a fantastic smart camera and mine is one of those that are idiot proof.
Now I must go to Pittsburgh to visit Mickey and have Ann take professional shots of the girls! Waht a fantastic excuse for a road trip!!!!

Haha...her TAIL is even just like Boca's. Just a fuzzy rope...no feathering at all on these two black cuties. How old is she now? I think that Boca was about 20 lbs at around the same age. They are both petite little things.

A fuzzy rope! I love it! I knew it looked like something but couldn't quite figure what. Cadi's tail is incredibly long.
If she were a monkey she would have no problem swinging in the trees!

Actually Sheba is a WOMDERFUL foster mom to Cadi. They play sooo much and she is so gentle with Cadi. Duke loves to play with her too but he's very klutzy and likes to pounce on her. I hope he doesn't squash her!
