Eyelash problem

Hi,

Was wondering if anyone else had the same problem we are dealing with.  Charlie was diagnosed yesterday with an ectopic cilia.  It is an eyelash that grows inward and begins to scratch the eye.  He is only 4 1/2 months old.  It is supposedly a trait from the Golden Retriever.  He has surgery scheduled to remove the follice and was wondering if anyone had gone through this?

For what it's worth, one of my husband's friends' mini doodle had this - they had the surgery performed when he was getting neutered. No big deal according to them.
