My puppy has been scratching and biting really bad to the point he is making his hair come out. I have taken him to many Dr. and they said he was to younge for a allergy test, and they can't seem to figure out whats the rest. I am spending alot of money but no results. My puppy and I are very miserable. Any suggestions?
Adina's questions are very important ones.
Also, regarding food- even if a dog doesn't have an allergy to any particular ingredient (and it's unlikely that a puppy under 6 months old would), feeding a food with insufficient essentail fatty acids or a high Omega 6:3 ratio can exacerbate dry skin and itchiness. Sometimes people attribute an improvement in their dog's skin & coat to a particular brand of food when it's really just that a new food may have a better fatty acid content.
Karen, is this what the Evening Primrose Oil adds to help their itchyness? I have noticed a huge decrease in Hunters scratching since I started the EPO - it took about 3 weeks and then it was practically overnight. :-)
Snickers takes a fish oil pill at every meal.
We had an incident where he ate off the top of his tail fur ( it looked really pathetic) Ever since we started the fish oil he has not chewed. He also takes an antihistamine but that is for sneezing and coughing his allergies are
pretty bad. But the supplement really helps the picking/itchiness.
