Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I have been looking at all the differences in the doodles on this site. Is it because some are f1 and some f1b. Some look just like a poodle and some like a golden retriver. Open face and full face. But all so cute.

Some are goldendoodles (F1, F1b, diff sizes), others are labradoodles (F1, F1b, diff sizes), others are multigenerational labradoodles, others are Australian labradoodles, and we have a few members with Aussiedoodles (Australian shepherd x poodle). So with this much variety in a mixed breed...there will be a lot of 'looks'...one for everyone!
We have two "step-sisters". Same dad; different (but identical looking) moms. One has very strong poodle traits from the dad. The other has very strong retreiver genes from the mom. One is 35 lbs; one is 70 lbs. One is petite; the other has a big boxy head and big bones. One doesn't shed; one does.
Just like kids. You never know how the genes are going to shake out. Within the same litter you can get a whole assortment of doodles.
I think for most doodle owners, that's one of the great things about them. They don't look like every other doodle you ever see.
Try telling a group of a dozen border collies apart!
There is a big variety, it makes it so fun to see everyone's different doodles. They are so unique not only in looks but in personality.
Teddy looks much more retriever-like. Very sweet looking boy!
I think it's like human kids -- some kids look more like Mom, some look more like Dad, and sometimes they look like Great Grandma three generations back ;) I do think, generally, the F1b's look more poodly because they are 75% poodle. (Assuming the most common choice is to breed back with a poodle)

What really blows my mind is how different the SAME Doodle will look from 8 weeks to 6 months,a year, then again at 2 years.. coat changes can be so drastic.. from straight to curly, color changes, texture changes.. just amazing!
Koda's parent is a GR (dad) and a black standard Poodle (mom), Koda is white-ish/cream in color, and his sister is black what white socks. He is easily 10 lbs bigger than his sister too.
Mine are litermates ......... couldn't be anymore different!
This link has a good breakdown of what the different letters are refering to.
