The New Thing To Do

Starlit has started to do something new and I wonder if other dogs do this strange behavior.

She picks up one LITTLE stuffed toy--only this little stuffed groundhog and carries it around while whimpering or maybe like a high-pitched talking.   It reminds me of a mother cat talking to her kittens as she moves them to a new safer bed. 

Is she pretending she is a mother?  She doesn't seem upset but she looks like she wants to put it somewhere safe or nest with the little toy.

Anyone else witness this?  I wish I knew what she wanted.  She seems kind of desperate.

I can give you a double ditto on that here! With Lucy it is a fuzzy bone shaped toy and with Sophie it is a latex ice cream cone. Lucy will whine in the beginning and if she can't find a safe enough place it turns into a howl and I don't mean a soft howl, I think the neighbors can probably hear it. With Sophie it is just the little whine, cry that you talk about with Starlit! These are also the same two toys that they will bring to greet you or grab when it is time to go to bed!

The other day I was getting ready to vacuum the living room and Sophie's ice cream was laying in the middle of the rug. Sophie was laying on the Sofa. I picked up the Ice Cream cone and tossed it into the toy box. Sophie got off the sofa and got it out of the toy box, and layed it right back in the middle of the rug where it was before and got back on the sofa. I said "Sophie I'm going to vacuum", so I picked it up and put it back in the toy box to which she responded by getting off the sofa, getting it out of the toy box and putting it right back in the middle of the rug. At this point I just had to see if she would do it again so I picked it up and put it back in the toy box ..... you guessed it, she got up picked it up and put it back in the middle of the rug ...... Sophie won ...... I just picked it up vacuumed under it and put it back down!

Sophie the interior decorator? Sophie knows what Sophie wants. Great visual~~ the doodle eyes rolling up at you. The determination :) Glad you gave in. There must have been a really good reason the toy needed to be on that rug.

I actually got a little bit of Lucy doing this this morning! Didn't get the big ole howl because as soon as the camera came out she noticed I was watching her. It is a little dark as it was still dark outside so I was trying to turn on lights as I went. I'll go upload the video!

Bandit did it this morning to! I was still in bed but he was walking around crying, I got him up on the bed and he had one of the rawhides from yesterday in his mouth. He then buried it under the covers in the bed and snuggled up and went back to sleep with me. Sooo cute!!

Then he ate a ballpoint pen and got ink all over the carpet, so now I am the one crying!!

Aren't these doods incredible:) Lucca has the fuzzy shaped bone too. It's the one he brings up to our bed every morning to greet us!!! He also suckles on it at night like a pacifier:) That's the one toy (he has a couple other ones too) that he doesn't destroy, just suckles. They are his "loveys".

Daisy puts them in her mouth and nudges us until we try to take it from her i.e. PLAY. She also starts whining if we don't do it. Usually her little thing is from a toy she has destroyed like the head or a foot or a hand....it's really very funny but I can't seem to toss these "parts".

I don't let tori have stuff toys because she becomes a fierce forest carnivore with them - LOL. But how ADORABLE is Starlit!

I brought Miss Kitty out of the crate last night to see what Tara would do with her. Sure enough she wondered the house with Miss Kitty in her mouth crying and making strange little noises. There is definitely something special about Miss Kitty!!!
