The cultures came back and Lexi has a severe infection. She has to be on Baytril 68 MG for three weeks to one month. She has started the meds twice a day but has lost her appetite. She will take a chicken strip treat but thats about it. We have given her rice, chicken breast, ground beef, kibble, and some pork but she refuses everything and is sleeping a lot.

Does anyone have ideas on how to stimulate her appetite?

Maybe you can try adding some grated parmesan cheese over her food, or a tablespoon of plain yogurt. Poor Lexi :( I hope she feels better soon.
Some yogurt would be good anyway if she is on antibiotics, especially for that long.
She is probably nauseated from the Baytril. I would talk to the vet and see what they suggest she should take to help her tummy out since she has to be on this medication for such a long time. Maybe something to coat her tummy?
My poor Lexi!
Please tell her that Samantha and Charli are sending her hugs!
Will she eat frozen yogurt? Maybe mixed with fruit that she likes? I know she is a royal PIA when it comes to eating.
I am so sorry for you and Barbara to watch her go through this!!!
I am sure she will get thru the Vaginitus. Unfortunately, she was starting to eat fairly good and was up to 37lbs when last weighed. I don't want to see her lose the weight gain. Yogurt sounds like it might help. We will try it in the morning. Thanks to everyone :)
A vet recommended giving Pepcid AC for the tummy thing to our friends dogs and our daughters Boxer used Pepcid AC when they were on meds. I would certainly ask the Vet before trying though.
Hope Lexi feels better soon.
We use the Pepto when our guys have a sick stomach too. When Murphy was so sick this weekend my Vet prescribed a drug that was an anti nausea med as well as an appetite stimulant because he was also refusing to eat. It worked very quickly, and he started eating normally again. You may want to ask about this drug. Good luck, and I'm sorry poor Lexi is feeling so miserable.
Poor Lexi! Hope she's feeling better soon!
try a little steak....that always works w Beau! So sorry your sweet girl is sick!! Oh yes, try making some jasmine rice...it's aromatic and stimulates the appetite. Also, surprisingly, as awful as it smells to us, if I add some Omega 3 fish oil (Just open the ampule and squirt it in the food), he gobbles up whatever I put it on. Please send her a kiss and a hug from her pal Beau.
My Molly had it too until she was spayed and she never got it again. The vet told me just to make sure that the area is kept very clean, like right after naps and right after she goes out and before she goes to sleep at night. It helped a lot.
As far as the appetite thing, again, Molly had a problem with it and just ate her absolute favorite things. I figured as long as she had SOME calories and she was staying hydrated-that would be a good thing. I also tried yogurt. She would tolerate it and it seemed to help. Good luck with this-poor baby....:(
one other idea: when all else fails, and I cannot get Beau to eat ANYthing else, a chicken hot dog with cheese inside (from Winn Dixie, a whole package costs like $2.50) is always welcome! Just throw it in the microwave for about 30 seconds to a minute, til it sizzles, and then slice into small chunks. Recommended in the WebMD magazine I found in the vet's office! Works like a charm for us.
Definitely try the pepcid and if that doesn't work, call your vet and see if there is any anti-nausea medicine they can prescribe that will work with the Baytril. We keep prescription anti-nausea meds on hand for our chihuahua because he goes through bouts of not eating and this gets his stomach back in order. Something he will usually always eat is cheese, even if he doesn't feel well.
