Hello Everyone! I have an issue I'm hoping to get some help with.  My little Codi has started eating her poop! This is really gross!  Now we are only letting her outside when the yard has been picked up completley (we also have two other dogs)  or when we can stand with her.  My vet said there is no nutritional reason they do this and you have to break the habit.  Anyone ever have this problem and what did you do to break it?  She is such a sweetheart and loves to give kisses but I just can't bear the thought of a poopy kiss!

I have heard to put pineapple in their food??? We've never had a problem with this but I remember reading something about this in the Food Group.
thank you for all your advice I am definitely going to try and fix this habit!
When we were at the last romp Ned was 'attacked' and rolled in some poop or he rolled himself in it. He has recently become our alpha if that makes a difference. I am not happy. Any suggestions???
Nancy, I'm not sure what you are unhappy about-that he was "attacked", that he rolled in poop or that he has become the alpha recently? What's going on with that little Beach Boy?
Nah, the attack was not a big deal, although Ned screamed like a girl! What a sissy foo foo. A border collie decided that little Ned was a sheep or something but instead of herding him he ran over and rolled him. Ned got poo on him in that incident I think, but I had caught him earlier that afternoon rolling in something which I do think might have been poo. He had a major baby wipe bath before getting into the car. He hadn't done this before and does not do it in our yard. Our old dog who had been alpha died last month and Ned has taken the position. Since he is the small one, it is a good thing.
Poor little Ned!! That BC sounds like a BULLY!! I have to agree I hate messin' with poop!! Hopefully it was a one time occurence!

So Ned is steppin' up!! Never underestimate the little guys!! :)
I have the same problem with Colby and he thinks it is a game. He picks it up and brings it into the house hoping I will chase him. I try to keep the yard clean but it is a big yard and I do not always find it. I need to try some of the home remedies to fix this. Pineapple is acidic and I worry about his digestion. He seems to have alergies also. I love this dog, and laugh so hard at his antics, so it is hard to get mad.
Try using 2 tbsps of plain yogurt on her food. That seemed to work with Max...He's 2 1/2 years old and will periodlcally go thru poop eating phases...mostly due to boredom I think. The yogurt does something with the bacteria in the stomach that makes the poop taste bad. Hope this helps
Our new puppy came to us doing this and our breeder explained that she learned it from watching her mom being that she stayed with her until 10 weeks old and that all good mommy dogs clean up after their pups. Makes sense, but that sure didn't make it less yucky! We started putting pineapple in her food and just stood right by her as she pooped and told her to leave it, and picked it up really quickly to break the habit. It took about 2 weeks I'd say. But she doesn't do it anymore. So good luck.
thank you all for the the suggestions! I think I am going to try the yogurt and see if that helps. I pick up the do-do all the time because i have three dogs but if she sees one little piece she is after it..ugh! This habit will be broken! I will let you all know if this works!
