It seems Alfie (15 months old) has fleas and ticks and I am looking for the best treatment. I searched around for awhile and found Frontline Plus at http://www.dealrocker.com/dogsupplies/deals. I read somewhere that it provides fast, effective and convenient treatment and control of fleas and ticks for dogs and puppies. It also stops and prevents infestations and kills adult fleas, flea eggs and flea larvae. Does anyone have any experience with Frontline Plus? If you have any better recommendations, please let me know.

Thanks..

What are you using now to have so many fleas and ticks?

We used Frontline Plus for over 2 years and it works for us. Nothing is 100% and once in awhile Lilly will scratch like she has a flea but other then that she is good.

I have used Frontline Plus for 7 years and it's very effective for my dogs, plus my vet feels it is the safest of the topicals; JD has skin issues, so that's important. The Frontline Plus is one of the only products that will break the flea life cycle in addition to killing the existing fleas, and this is crucial to eliminating the eggs from your environment. Flea larva can live dormant in your carpets, etc., for a year. Frontline Plus stops the flea's reporductive cycle.

However, I would caution everyone against purchasing it through internet websites, unless you are very sure of the source. There is a lot of conterfeit product floating around out there, and that could be potentially dangerous for your dog. Foster and Smith is a reliable source, as well as the pet supply chain stores, and both may be less expensive than purchasing it from the vet. But I would not use the website you linked above for anything that goes in or on my dog. There have been mnany reports of dogs having adverse reactions to spot-on flea & tick treatments, and I'm sure counterfeit products are part of the reason for this.

Frontline Plus works well.  I usually buy from dog.com or Drs. Foster & Smith.

Maybe its regional, but here in TN Frontline isn't working well anymore.  My dogs were on Frontline for years with great success.  Last year it just quit working & we had fleas, fleas, fleas, fleas!  I've heard the same thing from many other people in our area.

We've been on Revolution this year with great flea success but it seems worthless for ticks.  Revolution is also a heartworm preventative so I'm very happy with the flea/heartworm situation, I just wish I could find something for ticks.  They've been terrible this year - I picked one off Webster yesterday and we have snow on the ground!

You need Frontline Plus for really effective treatment in areas with fleas. Just the Frontline "Top spot" product or regular Frontline will not break the flea's life cycle. That may be part of the problem.

Jennifer, I am in Nashville and the Frontline Plus has been great for fleas, just not for ticks (like you!). I switched to K9 advantix for a while, but heard some negatives, plus it is harmful to cats (don't have cats, but it made me pause...).  Back to FPlus and doing okay!   If we do a woods walk I have to comb through the dood to make sure she is tick free.

Frontline Plus for dogs can't be too harmful to cats, my cat is 10 years old and regularly washes both of my dogs and has done since we got him.  It is the only product my vet will allow dogs owners with cats to purchase.

Both my dogs take Sentinel Flavor Tabs for Heartworm all year round, it also helps with the fleas.  I also have to use Frontline Plus every three weeks to help combat the ticks.  Have you spoken with your vet regarding pricing?  My vet undercuts the online stores, so I buy it from them.  They are still one of the few Mom and Pop vets that haven't sold out to one of the major chains, so their prices are already reasonable.

I wasn't as fortunate as many of the folks who found one flea remedy that worked.  I started with Frontline Plus, Advantix, back to Frontline--never was able to get rid of the fleas, just got smaller populations.  Just recently, I got Comfortis (a tablet) and a Siphotrol Plus II premise spray for the house and FINALLY the fleas are gone.

We had a flea issue in October when Bella was just 11 weeks old. She had a few on her and had not had any flea treatment as yet, however Murphy has continually been on Frontline plus for almost 2 years. He had no fleas on him altho they have close contact constantly.  Once we treated her and did the whole flea clean up of the house and yard, we never saw another anywhere. So I have to say, even in the presence of flea sightings, the frontline did stop an infestation. That's all I needed to be convinced. Also, my vet told me that the guarantees Frontline and Heartguard give does not apply if you purchased online. How they know where you got it from I wouldn't know, but she may have said that so I buy from her.
