Doodle Kisses on the Mouth?

So we may never know what caused Rooney's illness but one thing they did consider - parasites from eating something outside.  I know it is weird but I do let Rooney lick me on the lips and I'm going to confess that once in a while a tongue has slipped in there a time or two.  Rooney!  So - do you let your doodle kiss your mouth and is there a health risk.  Rooney is the first dog that I've let do this.

OMG...the visual lol:) I let both dogs lick me on the mouth and have never gotten sick from it. Health risk to us or them:)

I am so glad to hear that Rooney didn't have to have surgery to remove something he ate. Have had you both in my thoughts.

I love Sophie kisses :) But I did pay the price... $750 to be exact! Sophie, being a puppy with low immunity, got a bacteria called campylobacter. The vet didn't figure out what was wrong right away as her only symptom was loose stools. In that two weeks I got horrible stomach pain and ended up in the ER- dr. thought it was my appendix but everything cleared and they couldn't figure out what was wrong. Just sent me home with some pain killers. After the vet diagnosed Sophie she warned me to wash my hands frequently until she completed her antibiotics as the bacteria was transmittable to humans. Turns out that the symptom in humans is horrible stomach pain that can look like appendicitis! Luckily I have insurance... I love the kisses too much though and admit the experience hasn't changed me. I figure her immunity is better every day that she gets older, right? :)

*I* must admit I'm a bit squeamish about dog tongue on my skin.  Not a big fan.  So I'm THRILLED that Rosco (not Boca and in the past NOT NOT NOT Thule) is SUPER NON LICKY.  In fact...I can breath 'fresh' morning breath (a favorite aroma of his) or fresh FOOD breath on him UP CLOSE...and he will ONLY lick his own lips.  I adore that about him.

Umm, I can see that that line could be used for blackmail purposes down the road - LMAO!  The funny thing Adina is I am like you, I've never liked being licked by any dog or cat.  For some reason Rooney has stolen my heart - never to be seen again and I just don't mind when he does it.  Ahhhh - puppy love!

I'm not a person that loves every animal I see so that fact that I let Rooney do this has convinced my husband that his real wife was abducted by men from mars - lol.  BUT what I'm really asking is about a health risk.  IF Rooney had parasites and licks my mouth - is there a real medical issue.  I'm hearing what Mandy is saying and thinking maybe the lip licking could be risky.

When Guinness had Giardia, my Vet told me not to allow him to lick my face and to wash my hands whenever he licked them, because it could be transferred to humans.  That's when I stopped allowing them to lick my face.  They do lick my hands a lot though, and I just make sure I wash them frequently.

Porter doesn't kiss my face or lick it, and that is just fine by me.

He doesn't kiss anyone except my neighbor, and I suspect it is because HER doodle is a big kisser and Porter doesn't want to miss out on anything her doodle does or gets.  He also luuurves her. 

I wonder if it is because of my zit creams (retin A and salycylic acid).  I sure wouldn't lick that stuff.

I love cuddles, rubs & scratches (me to him, lol), even hand licks; but saliva exchange is not my thing, so he also probably senses my reticence.

I am a believer in bacteria exposure vs. annihilation, so for me it is more a sensory thing.
