Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi Everyone,

I've had my mini Australian labradoodle for about a month and she has yet to bark (she is almost a year old). Are there other doodles out there who rarely make noise? Emma used to whine by the door to go out but now just stands there quietly to be let out or taken for a walk. She's more on the calm side but loves playing with other pups and meeting new people. I just wonder if it is normal for her to be so quiet. Thanks for your advice!

Rooney doesn't bark much at 5 months.  I was very pleased when a dinner guest arrived at our front door last night and he didn't bark at all.  However last Thursday we were having some landscape work done - bark, bark, bark.  I finally put him in his kennel is the office so that he couldn't see them, he did not like those men in our yard.  I don't like barky dogs or yippers but I do appreciate a bark when the dog thinks something is not right.
You are one lucky doodle owner, in my book!!!!!!!!
I have one of each.
Cocoa was very quiet until she was about a year old.  Now she barks when dogs walk by our house.  We have worked hard to curtail this, but it isn't easy.  If Emma stays nice and quiet you can count yourself as very lucky!
Pando never barked, until Chloe Doodle arrived.  sigh....I wish they didn't bark.
I wish!! Both of my Doodles are very loud! It doesn't matter what they're doing or what they aren't doing the barks accompany them every step of the way. :)
OMD, oh how I wish I didn't have a barker, he barks at anything that moves or blows in the wind,,,,
My mini goldendoodle didn't bark for over 6 mos.  I thought maybe she couldn't.  Then one day she was sitting beside me and heard a noise outside and barked.  It took me by surprise, she had a voice!  She now barks regularly at unknown noises or my kid's coming in late at night.  She's a regular watch dog now!
Bella is so quiet too! She is a labradoodle. Bella is 17 months old and only "barks" when she is playing with other dogs or running up and down the fence when the neighbor dogs are out. Even at that it isn't really a bark, it is more of a high pitched yelp of happiness. And she didn't really even start this until about 3 months ago when my sister brought her dogs over for the weekend, they bark. She never barks to go out or come in or if the door bell rings. It is nice to not have a barking dog.
Just thank your lucky stars!  I have a very vocal doodle and I wish she were more quiet.  Our other doodle is not nearly as vocal.  He will bark if Fenway gets him started, but only a time or two.  He is a whiner though.  So just be thankful.  You sound like you have a wonderful doodle!!
In a perfect world, my two would not let out ear-piercing, brain-rattling barks at everything and anything that goes bump in the night. Seems they have sun-downers syndrome. Sun goes down and they become hyper alert to their surroundings and every leaf blowing by the door is cause for a security check with barks.  Oh.... to have a quiet dog. And not have to say "Hush" 50 times a night while watching TV.  BE GRATEFUL!!!! She is perfect!!!
Hi Bella!  I just found your comment on Emma's quietness and wanted to let you know that her brother Jasper is pretty quiet too.  It could be their calm temperaments that are important to our breeder Dianne.  Jasper does get vocal when he is trying to get someone to play, human or dog, but is always down in the play stance when doing it.  He has barked a few times at dogs or people walking down our street but this is a bad habit Lily is teaching him, one I'm working on correcting in all 3 doodles. It's funny when you have more than 1 dog you seem to notice differences in personality - Lily is very vocal, barks at everything, very excitable - Zeke is somewhere in the middle, barks when he needs to, sometimes when I'd rather he didn't - Jasper hardly barks at all except when playing (Lily usually does all the barking for them al!)  In reference to temperament, I know this is one of Dianne's top priorities in breeding and it seems she hit the jackpot with this group of little red cuties!  Enjoy your darling quiet Emma!
