Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We cannot find a breeder of minidoodles anywhere in our state of Massachusetts or surrounding states so we are looking online. This scares me because you cannot tell the difference between puppy mills and legitimate Doodle breeders. Anyone can set up a website and make everything look wonderful when in fact it's a mill. Anyone have advice or a recommendation? How does shipping via air affect the pup? Thanks for your help. Dottie

Dot, your concerns make a lot of sense. Sometimes nice websites cover up some horrid breeding practices! Here are some websites to help you out to weed out the good from the bad. These sites list either ONLY breeders who do appropriate health testing or list what health testing the breeders do. That's one good sign:

http://www.goldendoodles.com/breeders.htm

http://www.goldendoodle-labradoodle.org/Goldendoodle_Labradoodle_Pr...

These sites don't PROVE a breeder, but they help guide you.

Make sure they do health testing and can show you evidence of it AND that they give a min 2 year health guarantee with monetary reimbursement if puppy develops a genetic issue that needs treatment in that time.

Then get a feel for their program...where are puppies raised, etc. Talk to the breeder on the phone, ask for references, ASK ON HERE in case others on this site have experience with that breeder. The breeder should ALSO be careful about you and ask YOU lots of questions too!

Once you know the facts...the rest is gut instinct. But flying is very safe...I wouldn't hesitate to ship a puppy to me.

Are you looking for mini labradoodle or mini goldendoodle?

GOOD LUCK!!!
Hi Dot,
I've purchased both of my Doodles online....and, both breeders have been exceptional..! I don't know if I was just lucky to find 2 great breeders, who are great people as well....or, maybe most breeders online who breed doodles are amazing people...?? There is a "Breeders group" on the website...maybe you can pop in, and check them out......One of my Doodles came from Ohio from Trina's Doodles and Poodles...my other Doodle came from Trinity Doodles in Florida. I live in Southern California...so, both came a far distance via Continental Airlines. CO airlines does a great job at shipping...! They have a petsafe program, and take wonderful care of the pups!
Good luck!
I purchased Holly (F1 Goldendoodle) online from Cheyenne valley Labradoodles and Goldendoodles north of Dallas Texas The breeder, Heather Goines picked out Holly for us from our parameters. She temperament tests her pups and Holly tested out as a 4 in a scale of 1 to 7; where 1 is shy and 7 is aggressive.

I traveled to Texas from San Diego County, CA because I wanted to see Holly's parents, the environment of Heather's kennel and, of course, Holly herself. I was fully prepared to not accept her if this turned out to be a puppy mill operation.

I was very impressed with Holly's parents, her environment and, of course, the 7 week old puppy that was to become our Holly. We are still impressed with Holly in all aspects and are very grateful to Heather for having selected this wonderful doodle for us.

Heather has multiple references on her site and I checked out these references before placing the deposit on the pup. Everyone I communicated with was satisfied with the quality of Heather's puppies.

I Googled miniature labradoodles and found a breeder in Maine (where I live) and was thrilled. We now have two wonderful mini Australian Labradoodles from Patty at Log Cabin Labradoodles. I visited her web-site and through her links found all kinds of other breeders. I gleaned tons of infomation from these sites, wish that DoodleKisses had been around when I was researching!!!

Also, there are lots of Massachusetts members here, why don't you do a member search and then contact some of them.
I, too, purchased Emma (a mini) from Patty at Log Cabin Labradoodles, and found her to be very reputable. I live in Massachusetts (Newton) and didn't really want to fly my puppy, though I know many owners do and have had no difficulties - my friend got her dog directly from Australia! Also, coincidentally, one day before Emma arrived, I was in Wellesley and saw a woman walking a Labradoodle (8 months old at the time), who was a Log Cabin dog, so I got to see one in person and was thrilled at how beautifull he was! Hope this helps, and let me know where you live, you are more than welcome to come and meet Emma any time.
I second these two recommendations if you are looking for a mini Australian Labradoodle! We just got our second one from Log Cabin two days ago, and couldn't be happier. They both have great temperaments, coats and are very healthy. Though they are in Northern Maine, I know many Log Cabin pups go to Massachusetts and they off complimentary transport to the Boston area.
No matter what breeder you choose, you should always follow through with references. Every reputable breeder should be able to provide a few puppy owner references that you can call and talk to about your questions and their experience with that breeder.
I think you being here is an excellent start. Talking to people here will definately guide you to a great breeder.
We got our six month old Australian red mini labradoodle, Piper, from Kents Hill in Maine (www.kentshilllabradoodles.com). We couldn't be happier with the experience, Angelica, the breeder is such a nice lady. They breed the pups in their own home with their kids. We live in Western Connecticut and we met her at Logan Airport to get our pup, she was shipping some of the puppies elsewhere. She's very helpful, our pup is healthy, happy and just a bundle of joy! He's a mini, right now he's 18 lbs. and he may just stay this weight or gain a couple lbs. We found them on the web, I think it was from USALabradoodles. They gave us a health cert, lots of documentation, pedigree, testing results, he's microchipped, we never even went to see him before we got him, although we could have. You may tell her we sent you.

I don't think that anyone actually completely buys a Doodle online. What we do is we find the breeder from their online advertising. But then we contact the breeder and also ask around for opinions of the breeders that we have selected. It's not like buying a camera online.

We found Shayna online. We were looking for an F1b mini GD. Well I did a search on the internet and found a few. Unfortunately most of them were out of my price range. I finally found a breeder that was in my price range but I was cautious due to the price differential. We called up the breeder and found out that she only did one or two litters a year - her mother also bread dogs and she breeds show horses. It gave us the comfort factor. My wife picked up Shayna and found that it was a great place.

We are very happy with Shayna, even though she has turned out to be bigger than we expected, she is 40 + pounds. Her father is a 16 pound poodle and her mother is a 40 pound F1 GD.

We got her from Amy Pickerell of Gold Farms in Dresden OH
