I am so furious that I'm going to have a stroke!!!!!

As many of you know Rooney was attacked at our private dog park right before Christmas.  He got a bite on the back, a laceration in his mouth, a baby tooth snapped off at the jaw and a chipped tooth.  All of which he has recovered from, thank goodness.  The owner of the attacking dog, promised in front of several witnesses that he would not bring Bozo back into the park.  The owners offered to pay our vet bill which we declined as we live in a large golfing community and really just wanted to stay friendly and put it behind us - knowing that Bozo would not be back in the park.  At this time we had people coming to us to say that Bozo had attacked/bitten or tried to attack several other dogs.  Rooney goes to our dog park EVERY day between 3:30/4:00 till about 5:00.  Bozo's owner knows this as they have to drive past the puppy park to get to their house.  At 3:45 today as we are pulling into the parking lot I see the Bozo's owners car and I'm saying to DH "OMG is that so and so's car?"  He said he wouldn't come back.  So we get out and here comes Bozo's owner yelling "just keep Rooney in the car we are leaving".  Dear lord - I LOST IT!!!  I'm telling him (yelling) that you promised you wouldn't come back in here and he is saying that since only Baxter was there, who is Bozo's best friend, that he thought he would stop in for a bit but leave when anyone else showed up.  I told him I didn't give a rats butt why he stopped, he broke his promise, that his dog was vicious and should never be in public off leash and certainly not in the dog park.  It got UGLY.  So the guy leaves and now we are in the park and I'm so mad/upset that I can barely breath and feel like my blood pressure must be at stroke level when the a&$$ comes back!!!!!!!  Now we are inside the park and I'm yelling that I'm reporting this, that I had tried to be nice and that the dog lost it privileges when it bit my dog.  He said "Bozo has only bit 3 dogs.  What the heck?!!!!  The whole thing turned into huge drama and I am having a glass of wine trying to calm down but having no luck.  The owner's wife is a big time real estate salesperson here and he rides her coat tails, think he's hot stuff, owns the place, etc.  So, of all the people that have had to deal with the jerk, I'm the only one willing to stand up and say enough!  Of course they are way higher on the social scale so now I'm going to be talked/gossiped about but guess what - NO ONE is going to threaten me or my dog!!!!  He is messing with the wrong gal!   I went to the guard house and they got the boss on the phone who assured me that Bozo's owners have already been warned and will be getting a registered letter tomorrow banning their dog.  Wishing I could MOVE.        :(

Registered offender?  10 weeks?  Jeez now that is harsh.  At our dog park (which is beautiful I might add) the small dogs go from around 3:30 - 5:00 and the  large dogs after that.  Bozo was in the small dog group as he is a Corgi but he must weigh 40 or 50 lbs, very big Corgi.  When he bit Rooney - Rooney was about 12 lbs.

Jane, I am so PROUD of you for standing up to this guy who thinks he is above the rules. I hope the authorities will take it from here and it will not require much more of your time and effort. Why does there always seem to be ONE person who just ruins things for the rest of us??  I'm sorry that this has become an ongoing issue because we all thought it was a "done deal" with his (now known to be FALSE!) promises about not bringing Bozo back to the park. :(

So take lots of deep slow breathes, a few glasses of wine and as many Doodle Kisses from little Rooney boy as you can get for that blood pressure!

Glad you're standing your ground against this idiot.   Let's hope that the others who in the past have let this situation ride will finally stand up and do what is right.   I'm so glad Rooney has recovered....he is just the cutest little guy!  Finish your wine, let go of your anger and address the issue.   Calmly and repeatedly insist that the rules be adhered to.   He'll end up the loser and others will see him for what he is.

Rua felt so tramatized by this whole thing that she insisted I join you in solidarity and have a glass of wine, also!   So, what Bozo's owner REALLY meant was he promised not to take his do to the part as long as you didn't catch him there.  BTW...Rua and I are NOT social scale climbers...I like Country Music and Long Neck Beers over country club parties and fancy champagne.  Rua CAN NOT wait to meet her favorite boyfriend, Rooney!  She has a salon appointment tomorrow in preparation.

Jane, You did exactly the right thing.  Bozo should not be at the dog park or anywhere off leash.  If the dog owner really cared about his dogs well being, he would not take him anywhere off leash where he might hurt another dog or a person. I would not want to see the dog put down either, but I am afraid that may happen if the owner continues to put the dog in situations where he can injure someone.

We took our two doodles to the Dog Days of Winter at the Botanical Gardens last week and our Max was attacked but not injured.  There was an off leash area at the back of the Gardens and when we arrived we were the only ones there.  We were letting ours off leash one at a time and playing ball.  When a dog came in dragging a lady, we decided to leave because the dog was a little out of control.  As soon as the lady let the dog off leash, the boxer immediately came and jumped on Max and had him up side down with legs in the air.  Max is about 65 lbs but is very gentle and non aggressive. DH got the boxer by the collar and took him back to the owner and told her that her dog needed to be on a leash.  She put the leash on the dog but before we could get out of the area she asked if she could let her dog off leash again.  We told her to wait until we were out of sight.  We had fun walking the trails but I don't think we will go to the off leash area again.

I am so sorry that this happened to you.  Hopefully, the owners will get the message after they get the letter banning their dog from the dog park.

Good for you!! Our babies can't stick up for themselves and it is our job to do it for them. That dog's owner is quite irresponsible. His dog should not be out in public without a tight leash. My last baby got attacked by a dog who was not on a leash and I wish that I would have been more vocal about it. If he has bit three dogs, what is next? He should be reported.. Rooney deserves to play in his park knowing that he is safe :)
