My husband is self employed and has an office in a small plaza near our house where he and our son work.  Usually on Monday Thomas doodle goes to work with him and our son has started to also bring his six month old French bulldog Wilfred.  Last Monday the dogs were playing together when my husband Jack got a phone call from his brother telling him that Jack's  father had passed away an hour earlier. Jack told me later that day that while he was on the phone "instantly" the dogs stopped playing and that our thomas came and sat by the desk looking up at Jack.  Wilfred also sensed something as he just sat behind thomas also looking at Jack. There was no gasping...crying...or loud voices to alarm them but these dogs sensed that something was amiss. Jack just couldn't believe it and my son also said it was really something to see and that the dogs stayed very quiet for the rest of the day...as if they knew.

That is such an amazing story.  I believe that dogs have a connection to us.  So sorry for your family's loss.
I'm very sorry for your loss. I do think our dogs can read our emotions.
I truly believe that they can sense our upset. So sorry for the loss in your family.
I'm so sorry to hear of your father-in-law's passing.  Dogs have an incredible instinct.
I am so sorry for you loss. What sweet dogs you have!

Sorry for your loss.  They knew!

I believe that dogs not only "sense"  our stress, sadness, anger but that they can smell it.  I think our bodies give off smells that we of course don't smell but that they do.  I'm very sorry for your loss.

I am keeping a good thought for you and your family. So sorry for your loss.

Incredible story.  I will bet that Thomas tuned into Jack and Wilfred tuned into Thomas.  Aren't they wonderful!

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I'm sure the dogs do understand that something is wrong.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I totally agree with the others. Our babies just know. My little guy knows when I am about to be sick ( I have a pretty serious lung condition) Usually the day before, he is entirely clingy to me and won't leave my side. If I go to put him down he just follows me everywhere.

When he does this, it scares me because he has never been wrong yet. It is a distinct change in his behavior. They are connected and know a lot more then they ever get credit for.

I will be praying for your family. I hope your Thomas brings your family comfort.

I'm sorry to hear about your father-in-law. Dogs are intuitive and a great comfort.
Thanks everyone!!  FYI Jack's dad was about to turn 93 on Feb. 24th...he had 10 children...21 grandchildren..7 great grandchildren and FOUR...yes FOUR wives!!  He was widowed three times and was married to a beautiful lady 2 yrs. ago.  She just turned 94!!  When your responses told of your dogs great instincts about our emotions and illnesses...it reminded me of a friend who told me that they had a dog that could sense illness in people.  I thought she was nuts at the time but last month I had a nasty case of athletes foot.  I went into my brothers house one day with my winter boots on and one of his labs greeted me and immediately started licking at my boot on the foot that was sore. Amazing !  Somehow he knew that I was hurting on that foot.
