Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We went to the vet today for the annual checkup.  I can't remember when but the last time we were there he weighed in at 96.7 pounds.  The vet at that time did not have any problem with his weight.  He is a huge boy and she did not seem concerned with his weight at all.  Not so at all today.  He weighed in at 100.4 pounds!!  I was surprised at that when the tech weighed him but then the new male doctor came in and told us he was getting too heavy.  This doodle runs with a dog group 5 days a week for 2 hours in a wooded setting with a dogwalker.  He is walked every evening when we get home for 30 minutes and on the weekends he goes to our community schoolyard where dozens of people meet with their dogs early in the morning. SO...excercise is NOT the problem.  So I thought to myself...what could be causing him to gain weight?  Could it be the dozens of milk bones he has every day?  Or could it be the egg McMuffins we buy him when we go thru the drivethru at McDonalds?  Or could it be the parmesan cheese and bits of leftovers we add to his dog kibble?  YES is the answer to my questions.  He is only 2 years old and the vet said we have to keep him slim to prevent the wear and tear on his joints.  Tonight....just kibble and a boring treat we bought at the vet!!  He is barking at the pantry cupboard in my kitchen as I type this!!!!!

Thomas,

I am so sorry to hear this, Dood. In the fall, my vet told me I was too fluffy (100.9 pounds). My mom cut out all the good stuff and gave me apples and green beans and carrots.  WTD!!  Did someone think I was a rabbit?? I even took my mom by the hand and led her to the treat jar. She didn't budge. No treats.

Mom got me a hair cut..and I lost 2 lbs! Fortunately the rest of the weight came off quickly and I started getting my regular treats again The last time I weighed I was 95 lbs. Now I just avoid those scale things...just in case. A Dood can't be too careful.

Your pal, Murphy

Ya Murph....I feel your pain!  How did u get thru it?  My mom is just being mean to me.  I hate that doctor....he doesn't know what he is talking about!  I am in perfect doodle shape....you and I are just big boned!  I love egg McMuffins!!  I am tall too...I don't think he took that into consideration when he put me on this diet.
Thomas you look great! But you've got to listen to the vet. Give those carrots another try... LOL

Thomas,

I have never had an egg McMuffin!  Do they have cheese?  I love cheese.

I think you are in perfect doodle shape!

Murphy

PS Cheerios are pretty good

Oh Thomas! You are gorgeous! I think it's mostly hair they are weighing. At 27 1/2 inches our Kona weighs 94 and the vet said he was too big. He runs 3-4 miles 5 days a week and gets nothing but kibble and a 1/2 tsp of peanut butter after being brushed. He only gets fed 1 cup of dog food 2x's a day. Seems like he should be 65 pounds on that schedule but nonetheless... He is very fluffy and fun, just like you.
I know when I go to Weight Watchers, I always add at least an inch to my height. Plus I wear heavy clothes week one and then lighter ones week two, so I always lose weight. Thomas, I might need to teach you some of my tricks.

I do exactly the opposite of this when I go to my doctor! He has always been telling me I have to gain weight, so I slouch when he measures my height and wear heavy clothes and shoes with lots of coins in my pockets.

I bet that's what Thomas is doing!

You and Laurie now make me think I need to strip my patients before weighing them!  I thought it was only young girls with anorexia nervosa that did that...LOL.
Love this pic! He looks so cuddly!!!

Thomas & Murphy,

I think both of you are stud-doodles!  I can imagine you guys out here in California with the Muscle Beach body builders at Venice Beach!  Who wants to date a scrawny little guy anyway?

Cocoa

Whoah..Dood! We are stud-doodles!   Did you hear that Thomas??

We are definitely going to this California Muscle Beach body builders thing.

I think Cocoa must be the love of my life!

Murphy

My mom and I would LOVE to live in California!! At least she would....she hates the cold winters here in Canada but I LOVE THEM.  I make angels in the snow every day!!  But Murph...you and I would be the best looking dogs on the beach!!  We are "chick magnets"!!
