Remember when I said my doodle doesn`t matt.Well......

Dakota will be 2 years old on July 3rd.Ive said on here many times that she doesn't matt or shed.About a week ago She started to matt like crazy and now she is also shedding.I'm starting to think she is finally getting her adult coat.But isn't she too old to be going through this change now...I brush her and comb her once a week.But now it will have to be every day.No thanks.I'm getting her cut short for my sake and for her comfort.More play time and less stress for her.She doesn't mind getting brushed but I know her and she would hate me if i brushed her every day.

My breeder told me that the coat change can happen any time between  8 months and 2 years.  So I'd say she is right on time!  LOL.  Better you than me but I'm sure my turn is coming.

Our breeder said the coat can change from 6mths to 3yrs(we were hoping for fleece/wool) NOT ....GOT HAIR!

I have also heard of the coat change happening later-up to 2 years old and beyond. Well, on the positive side you have had over 1 1/2 years of "easy coat" which many of the rest of us never had!! 

 

I think you're wise though, once it starts-shorter is better for SOOO many reasons!! Good luck!!

I agree with getting her cut short.  We get Dex cut down to ~1/2 inch all over a few times a year and it works great for us.  He also seems to like having shorter hair.  I also don't have the patience to brush him every day.

Fudge really mats if we don't keep her hair shorter.

Sheeba just had her grooming yesterday. Next visit I'll have her coat clipped shorter, groomer said she was full of matts, especially her legs. It's hard for me to brush her as she is a wiggle worm about it. I try my best, but a 55 plus pound dog with all the wiggles is hard for me to manage. I take in her at least every 2-3 wks. I know she'll feel much better with shorter hair even though I love it longer. I suppose it'll be sweater time for her until it becomes warmer out. I was told it would be around 18 months with the coat change. Good luck with everything!
