I was just reading through some of the wall posts and cracking up.  You girls are FUNNY! Bad thing about wall posts is that you can only reply with another wall post....  This thread is just for chatting. There are  quite a few members who don't want to participate in the challenge but we'd still love to hear from you and get to know you...

Sooooo, I'm going to start us off...Does anyone else here like to camp as much as I do? If so: Where? What method? How does your doddle do? And what are your best kept camping secrets?

Great idea Donna!  I myself am not a camper.  Maybe it is because my dad took us kids camping when I was little and I had a horrible time.  It was not my idea of fun.  But that is great that you enjoy it so much! :) I do like being outdoors, such as hiking and just taking in some wonderful nature, guess I just prefer to sleep in a nice warm bed. :)
I hear ya Melissa. We are fortunate to have a wonderful trailer with great beds, fridge, double sink, microwave..Etc... Some people might argue that that is note really camping...lol. We camp at the beach several times a year. The sunsets and sound of the waves at night are incomparable to anything else. We're pretty lucky here in California to have such amazing most of the year as well. We also camp in the desert a couple of times a year, my DH and DS ride motorcycles and quads too but I'm not AT ALL opposed to the nicer version of travel. We go to Hawaii every year and stay first class all the way. In a month or so, My DH and I are going to Loews Resort on Coronado Island... Just the two of us... Can't wait.

Well, now that type of camping I can probably handle.  I thought you meant pitch a tent & do your business in the woods type of camping!

We honeymooned on Kauai.  It rained a lot of the time while we were there but even then it was still beautiful!  Peter has a gig in New Jersey at the end of June and we are making a weekend out of it.  Flying in Friday and leaving mon morning so we will get to have some time to just relax and take in the sights.  It is a resort area in Avalon right on the water, so I am very excited about that!

I have never heard of Coronado Island.  I am sure you will have a great time!  You will have to post pictures!

We really want to go to Kauai.  We always go to Waikoloa on the big Island because it doesn't rain...but, it's got more lava rock than the rest of the island.  It's a very short drive to the luch rain forest though.  I'll post a link sometime tonight.  Jersey? Hey there are some beautiful spots back there. You'll have good weather in June too. I'd really love to visit the east coast too. The farthest east I've been is the midwest. Kevin has family in Iowa and Minn. Hey we should start a travel thread where people can post links to their favorite travel spots..

We went to New York in Jan 2010 for a conference.  We didn't really get to see any of the sights...we both ended up getting really sick.  We did get to see Times Square.  The farthest east we have been is St. Thomas.  Believe it or not Peter actually got booked there for a private New Years Eve party Dec 2009.  It was ok, we heard the other side of the island was better than where we were at.

Where about in Iowa?  I had a Great Aunt and Uncle that lived in Audobon and Peter did a concert in Oelwein in 2009 and he has one booked for Maquoketa for 2012.  We also had a conference in St. Paul last year.  I did not however make it to Mall of AMerica! :)  I have a goal to visit every state before I die.  Haven't counted them all but I am probably over 2/3 of the way.  I would LOVE to take a trip to New England in the fall!

A travel thred would be fun...you can post recommendations of places to stay etc. :)

Well my idea of camping is a Marriott Hotel, see  I don't like sleeping in tents my DH and I tried it before we got married, but, all those creepy crawling bugs  YUCK    No thanks,    Yea  I am a wimp,  so book a hotel on some exotic Island anywhere I will be there>

Donna  I too love this Idea  do u go to Hawaii alot ! !  !

I agree 100% If I'm going on vacation, I want it to be an actual vacation. Not filled with bugs and dust and gross food. :-)
We've gone every year for the past 5 years.  This year we probably won't since we have the dogs.  They have never been to a doggie hotel and they are just too young and needy to go for more than a couple of days (which they will when we go to Coronado in May). I LOVE Hawaii. It's my home away from home.  I start missing it the minute we get on the plane to come home...lol.

Hi Donna!  We're from Hawaii! Oahu.  I am missing it now- it's chilly here!

I grew up there, our family moved to  Seattle, met my now husband in Hawaii.  We will move back there, i think, someday.

My pups are young , too, but i think that if i  bring them downtown (my husband works at the W Hotel  when not Teaching) they could get used to new surroundings.  At the W, you can even bring your dog to the bar! :)  I have'nt tried it yet, i will have to get my pup Storm (black-mini) more socialized first.

Been to Oahu'u heeheee quite a few times Aimee. We couldn't go to a few of our favorite places the last two times we were there because they were filming. As soon as Lost ended, Hawaii five O started...
Hey that's great about the hotel. We haven't camped with our girls yet either but we took them up to the snow a couple of weeks ago and stayed in a cute little cottage. They did really well and had a BLAST! If you go to my page there are a few pics.

They also have a whole pet program at the resort we're going to soon in May but my hubby REALLY wants it to be just a romantic getaway for the two of us...I get that, we are so busy with kids, dogs, work, cub scouts...etc... We need a little "we" time.

Hahahaha.... Ya, if you have no privacy issues.... :-D those are actually pretty cool...That would be neet on the beach if the weather was a bit cold....I'll bet the plastic keeps the heat in...but what about the wind?

Sue, that's the great thing about camping at the beach in Cali. There's no bugs NONE!  We love it.
