I just thought I would update our deer head escapade.  Warning!  You may not want to read on if you are having breakfast........

Last Friday, Webster brought a deer head and left it on our front yard.  A poor deer had been hit by a car and was in the ditch at the front of our property.  Seems that between buzzards, coyote, and whatever else, most of the deer was dragged off the road and up onto our property.  The head made it to our front lawn.

My hubby came home that night and took it off the lawn and put it in a trash bag (probably the only way we'll ever "bag" a deer).  The next morning he went down to see about burying the rest of the body but it was gone.  Gone...just a couple legs left in the ditch.  He was SO impressed with the effeciency of our neighborhood buzzards that the thought (......you may want to sit down.....) "I'll just toss the deer head out and let the buzzards take care of it".

It seems that buzzards don't like deer head.  Later that afternoon, Charlotte showed up with the head.  Webster made it clear that it was NOT Charlotte's deer head, it was HIS deer head and he would take care of it.  We spent the afternoon/evening working outside and Webster would trot behind us carrying the head.  If we stopped to clear an area, Web would drop the head, hang out with us, then pick it up and carry it along when we moved.  He made the mistake of leaving it for a while and soon noticed that the buzzards were circling.  Webster spent the rest of Sat & Sun carrying the head and guarding it.

Now, I made it clear several times that I would like my husband to get rid of the deer head.  We have an understanding: I don't do dead.  Finally, Sunday night, we let Webster out for a potty break and he came back with the head.  (I have a pic but it's pretty gross!)  I was a bit more insistent that DH DO SOMETHING about the head so he disappeared outside for a few minutes.  When he came back, he told me that it was too dark to bury it so...........(......you are still sitting, right?.....)  he tossed it off the balcony and onto the roof of our utility trailer.  The dogs couldn't get it there and he would take care of it the next day. Right.

Monday morning I was having some coffee when I kept hearing "whooshes" and seeing shadows.  Moments after, I realized that buzzards were circling the house and then they landed on the balcony.  Buzzards on the balcony, yup.  When Webster realized where his deer head was, he positioned himself on the wall (we have a daylight basement and the front yard overlooks the lower driveway) about level with the roof of the trailer.  The morning was spent guarding the deer head from the buzzards overhead.

It is now Monday, one WEEK later.  The deer head is still on the trailer.  The buzzards have decided that whereas they don't like deer head, they DO like our house.  A nice perch.  At least 12 can fit on the roof.  More on the balcony and front yard.  I guess it's time for names although DH already named one Igor.

Oh Jennifer...You Are A Very Patient Woman!!

I would not be in this case...although the story is a Very funny one!!  Lol...

I wouldn't let Sasha have the deer head...Guess I spoil all her fun!

I would Very Strongly Ask that my DH gets the deer head out of there NOW!!

If he didn't...I would just get a shovel and get it into a plastic bag myself...immediately!!

Guess I don't have the patience that you have Jen...

I would be too worried about germs...etc...to let Sasha carry that old head around.  Ugh!

That...and...I just might not be as patient and laid back as you are Jen...(smile)

I hope your DH knows what a gem you are??

Thanks for the laugh...

Dear dog!!!!!  Funny yet creepy all in one post and the photos are down right  . . . . interesting - lol.  We had a deer head skeleton that we kept on a post at our cabin, named Earl.  One winter "something" stole him, probably to chew for marrow.  All I can think of is that I wouldn't be letting Webster give me doodle kisses with what has been in his mouth, can he gargle with mouthwash?  LOL.
Where's the buzzard picture?  You gave me a good laugh this morning. The only thing Xena ever brought me was a baby bird minus it's legs & tail which she had ripped off at an earlier time. Ugh - these cute chocolate doodles!!
This is a great story, and I love the buzzards.  Does anyone feel badly for the deer?

It's easy to forget that poodles are natural bird retrievers and retrievers are, well the name speaks for itself.  I guess the hunting/retrieving instinct  still exists even in the most domesticated animals.  I once had a poodle bring me a wounded

dove and drop it gently on the ground.  It was still alive and showed no signs of saliva anywhere on it.  I felt she was

trying to help the bird the way she looked at it and at me.  On the other hand I had a poodle catch a mockingbird, it did not survive; go figure.

Lol. Too funny! Love the pics. He is looking at that head so lovingly.
My LD came home from a walk through the forest proudly carrying a deer leg in his mouth!  Luckily all the meat had already gone and it was just bones.  But, he pranced around with his "prize" very happily and would not give it up for quite some time!!
I am laughing so hard I am crying! I am trying to read it to my DH and I am laughing so hard I can't! I showed him the photos and he just shook his head at my hysterical laughter! Thank you for being such a good sport over the head it was a Doodle classic! Lucky Webster with his prize :-)
This is just so funny. He is so precious protecting his deer head and following it around. I could just see Murphy doing this, Bella ofcourse would eat it, then poop it out and then eat it again!!!!  The deer head would just keep showing up here too. The buzzards though are another story.
OMG!!! First of all you are one brave lady  (I DON'T do BIRDS! Much less buzzards).. Tori's mouth would have been sterilized - probably to the point that she'd have no hair on her chinny chin chin - lol.... I hope Webster's not been offering you kisses - that would be worse than 'morning breath' - lol.  I have visions of you finding that deer head next to you in the bed one morning... You have warned about reading this after breakfast - but you should have warned about reading it before bed!  Well thanks for the nightmares!  LOL I'll check in tomorrow to see the 'fate' of Webster's deer head!  EWEEEEE!
Wow! Really interesting!! And you are really brave!! I would have passed out!!!

Jennifer is a better sport than us...it's funny mostly because WE ARE NOT LIVING IT! And yes it is funny. Webster is hilarious in the one picture where he is lying down just staring at it - LOL
