On the east coast and just woke up to hear about the massive earthquake in Japan. Thoughts and prayers for everybody in Japan and those in areas with tsunami warnings.

Just got home from a 12hr night shift and instead of going to bed I am watching the news, it is absolutely terrifying and it's possible for it to affect a lot more people including the US and the west coast of Canada.

The people affect by this earthquake and tsunami are in my thoughts and prayers. Also in my thoughts are all of the pets who will be abandoned and homeless during the aftermath. The entire event is heartbreaking on every level.

How are our West Coast friends doing? Anyone in Hawaii?  I saw they were 7 ft in Kauai, one of my favorite places in the world.

Allyson...I am in San Diego and so there probably won't be much more than big waves.  We live on the top of the penninusla with the bay on one side and ocean on the other.  So far there have been no warnings to our beach community but they have had them further up the coast in the Los Angeles area.  The place of largest concern is Crescent City which is the most northern part of California.  Also I hear that Santa Cruz got some action.  I also heard that we should not relax just because the first warning has passed.  There are some huge aftershocks in Japan and they too can cause Tsunamis.  They are telling everyone to not let their guard down.  Lots of precautions are being taken in the Northern California area just in case.  I think if it is bad it will be more like in Oregon.

Allyson, I am in Oregon and Cresent City is just west of us in Northern California. It apparently was hit pretty hard with the harbor area being destroyed. I am still trying to get more info. Here is a video of it when it came in:
