It's not like Rua is deprived of attention, believe you me.  So, last night I wanted a little "me time", is that so wrong?  I lit a few candles, had a romance novel (I used to read 3 or so a month, but since Rua's arrival, I haven't read 3 in past 6 months), a glass of chardonnay and I starting filling up my corner whirlpool tub.  I couldn't wait to sink up to my neck and turn on the jets.

Enter Rua...she always has to know what I am doing if you know what I mean.  She decided she wanted to see into the tub so she did a vertical leap onto the edge (it is 24" off the floor and her legs are all of 8") - I swear, she has been watching our cat, PuffDog.  She starting walking around the rim...and then, before I knew it, she JUMPED into the tub.

I couldn't believe it!  I scooped her up and got her body out of the water (my bath wasn't really hot, but I am not sure what temp dogs can handle) and started YELLING for my DH.  Unfortunately, he was downstairs and at the opposite end of the house.

I had to get out of the tub and drip to the phone in our bedroom (our phones can intercom)!  He came and took her to dry her off.  I climbed back into the tub (but closed the bathroom door this time).  And wouldn't you know it, she starts banging into the door.  DH was watching something on TV and wasn't paying attention to her.

So, I ended up not reading, drinking my glass of wine and relaxing in the tub.  Perhaps next time!

So, should I enter Rua into a Splash Dog or Dock Diving contest????

Maybe next time close (and  lock the door) and then put in some earplugs.  I love the idea of the intercom.  My DH is always at the other end of the house when I need him.  Sorry you missed your "spa night"!

Jane...I bet you are getting excited for Thursday!  I bought an AT&T expandable cordless phone system.  The main unit is an answering machine and plugs into the phone jack.  The other units (we have 4 of those) just plug into the electrical outlet and don't need a phone jack.  So, handset 1 is the main unit by the back door, 2  is my office, 3 is our bedroom, 4 is the wetbar downstairs and 5 is my DH's desk downstairs.  It is pretty cool...if I am in the kitchen and dinner is ready, I can intercom to him!  If I answer the phone and it is for him, I can transfer to his "extension"!  I love it.

I'm actually more excited for Saturday...that's our annual St. Pat's Day party, and it's always such a great time.  I'm going to look at that system....the intercom would be really helpful for us.  DH spends lots of time in the den which is downstairs and at the total opposite end of the house from the office (where I spend a lot of my time).  He can't hear me if I yell to him (at least that's what he says).  An intercom would be perfect.  Wouldn't it be really nice if somebody "intercomed" us when dinner was ready....right after a bubble bath and a glass of wine (with no surfing Doodles).

Sounds like fun!  We are party poopers!  I would must rather stay home than go out.

Here is the set I got (added two more handsets).  There are probably newer versions, but this will give you an idea.

My old cat ChiChi (RIP) used to get in the tub with me.  When I was in the bath and stretched out, he would stand or sit on my stomach (in a couple of inces of water).  He would also lay on the side of the tub between the two curtains when I was in the shower.  Gav likes to be in there too - when I open the closet to get a towel, in he goes.  He has never tried to get in though.  Hey maybe this can be Rua's entry for doodle idol!
That is hilarious! Stella likes to rest her head on the tub edge or get up on her front paws "accidently" dipping them in the water. I have been half expecting her to "make the plunge" someday.
Our late dog Buddy used to always come up stairs when he heard the tub running....so much for relaxation!! He used to grab my facecloth and take off with it...then bring it back and as soon as I tried to grab it...we had a tug of war.  I would let go and he would throw it back into the tub with his mouth and this scene would start all over again!  Thomas our GD thankfully does not do this....hmmm...maybe i'll grab a glass of wine and have a hot bath.  Ahhhh..so relaxing.
Oh, I'm sorry Dori....I'm laughing out loud....such is the life of a "mother".....it NEVER ends does it girl?!!    It all sounded so lovely.....and like such a wonderful idea......       I do hope you get your special moment soon!
Dori - I'm laughing so hard right now!!!!  Having met Rua (and you) the visual on this is too funny.  Rua is just this tiny, innocent looking little baby.  The thought of her jumping in - hysterical.  Rua is like Rooney - velcro puppy - they don't like us out of their sight.  Rooney actually follows me into the restroom and then tries to steal the toilet paper out of my hand.  Sorry about your spa night - try to bribe dh to be a better dog sitter (wink).
Don't you just love how our husbands are oblivious to life around them? I will try to take a bath and usually Vern barges right in and then stares at the water the whole time...this can be unnerving. The banging on the door does make it hard to relax, doesn't it?? Poor Rua...she wanted spa time too.
