Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Dumb question (and I did search this but couldn't find anything).  Maggie is Rooney's best friend at our dog park, she is a Cockapoo.  Cocker Spaniel + Poodle  so why isn't she considered some type of doodle?  I think she is a Cockerdoodle.  I realize that this sounds a bit nasty and most people might not want to say that they have a Cockerdoodle but really isn't that what a Cockapoo is?  So can someone please explain - what defines a doodle?  If there are Labradoodles, Goldendoodles, Aussiedoodles, why not Cockerdoodles or would that be a Cockadoodle?  Yes, I woke up in the middle of the night to ponder this - lol.

LOL, it'd be a cokadoodle-doo. :o)  Yes, they technically are a doodle and the first doodle as they've been around longer then the labradoodle. I consider them a doodle, they make up half of many Australin Labradoodles!
How funny!  My first thought was also CockaDoodleDoo!   LOL!    No answer, just as many guesses!
Guinness actually has lots of Cockapoo in his lineage, and it's funny because he looks so much like my Vet's Cockapoo that they could be brothers.
I love thinking that Maggie is a doodle!   Her body type is so very similar to Rooney's mini ALD body but she is more stocky.  I'll try to get a picture of them side by side, I wonder what she would look like if her hair grew out?  Of course her tail is docked :(        So do we have any Cockerdoodles here on DK?
GBK's Buddy is a cocker-poodle mix.  Check him out!.  He is huge and looks like a labradoodle to me - maybe an F1B.
I didn't realize that. Could have fooled me.
Hey Nancy....didn't the "expert" Beverly Manors look at Clancy and say he probably had Cocker in him????  He is short and stumpy sort of.  But oh so handsome!!!!!!!!!!
My breeder got lovely puppies by crossing her labradoodle with her cockapoo--I think THEY should be called Cockadoodle-doos! That's what I call them. Look how cute they are! And I agree that they are the original doodles!
My australian labradoodle has been called many things.  The first time my vet saw him, she insisted he was a goldendoodle.  Truth be told, her GD, Olive, and Finney look like matched bookends!  At his first puppy clip, the groomer said, "Definitely Cockapoo!" And when a kind man at the lake, who was training 2 gorgeous labs, gave Finn his first lesson in swimming and retrieving water lures he said "well, that little fuzzbud has some lab in there somewhere!"  LOL!
'doodle' lonely makes sense to me for labradoodle because it actually is a combo of two breed names.  Then goldendoodle was invented and then 'doodle' took on a general meaning.  I have no problem with cockapoos but the name cockapoo makes more sense.  Labrador and poodle when combined actually creates the letters D O O D L E between the labra and the oodle name.  I know it is a technicality.  But adding a D to oodle doesn't make sense when combining other names.  It's not cocker spaniel plus Doodle...it's cocker spaniel plus poodle.

Anyway that's my answer but I'm not sure that was your question.  Why aren't cockapoos doodles?  Well they are poodle mixes and if by doodle you mean poodle mix then they are.  Of you're asking why aren't cockapoos a more major part of DK then the reason is because DK was not created as a place for all types of poodle mixes.  It was created for LD's and GD's and those who like them.  It is the specific group of dogs we chose to focus on.  However we've never denied membership to nice dog lovers who wanted to hang out here :)
Adina, I love it - you are so literal - you remind me of my DH.  So a Cockapoo could be called a Roodle.  Cockeroodle - lmao - I love it!  ;)

LOL. I am unclear on why it matters if the cockapoo is considered a doodle or a cockapoo.  As if having "doodle" in the name gives it validity or worth.  I am a bit literal on some things only because labradoodle makes sense to me for the reason of the name combo and all the other ___doodles don't make sense from the name perspective. Cockapoo could be roodle or cockeroodle or cockerspoo or all sorts of things.  Or Cockerpoo or Cockerspanpoo or poocock or poococker or ... lol... with cocker in the name none of it sounds right.
