Jack just fell off my bed, remember he is only 12 pounds, He was trying to get a toy up on the bed like he always does, he fell and hit his leg on my oxygen  tank or his hip, He scream yelped and then cried for a few minutes. Now he won't walk on it. This is the same leg he got attacked on and it was pulled out of socket. He stopped crying, but now he won't walk on it.

Do I take him to the ER Vet, you know I am so fast to do that. I have to go to a very important doctors appointment tomorrow 2 and half hours away. So if he needs to go, I want to go now, plus if he is in pain I want them to fix him.

What do I do? How do I know

Jennifer, I am so glad this day is behind you!  I'm sure you are too!! I hope you and Jack are snuggled in for a long restful sleep right now! Our prayers for healing go out for both of you!
Jennifer...I knew that Jack would be OK and you are such a good doodlemom to take him to the ER vet the way you did.  We should always trust our first instincts!  I am also happy that you made your doctors appt so far away after such a terrible accident with Jack.  I have no idea what medical issues you have but rest assured I will surely be praying for you. I wish I lived closer to help out with little Jack.

Hi Jennifer, glad to hear that Jack is doing a little better, I'm sure everyday now you will see some improvement. You are blessed to have such a good friend. Doodle hugs to you and Jack and a special hug for Susan.

Jennifer,  Just signing in after being away for a couple of days.   So sorry to hear about Jack's fall and your health problems.  Glad to hear he is doing a little better.  Will keep you both in my thoughts and prayers.
How is Jack doing????  Wilson sends him hugs his way

Thank you so much for asking, we both slept great last night.. and well through the morning...and well I have been up for about two hours and it is 4 pm my time!!!!!

Jack is doing okay. He hates taking his pain medication, hates it, I watched him without it for a few minutes and up went his leg. so I know he is still having some pain. I gave him his pill, I swear he foams at the mouth when I force him to take it. He is milking the food issue but he wouldn't be Jack any other way. He will not touch his food but last night he ate my chicken and just now he ate my fish I was going to have. Spoiled spoiled spoiled, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

He is sleeping in my lap and I am going back to bed. Thank you all, Jack will be just fine and I am so blessed to have such great doodle friends who care.

As an extra bonus we found out today the dog that we were waiting for to go into heat with more toy goldendoodles, went into heat.. My mom is finally going to get her Molly Rose sometime in August.

Good to hear things are going well.  Sweet Dreams.

That will be an Exciting Summer for you and your Mom in anticipation of her New Puppy.

So I was told Jack could start loose leash walking a little bit more. Today I was feeling great, Jack was a bit restless so I decided we would go to the trails. He loves the trails, to do the whole small trail is just a half mile, I was only going to do half of that.  We literally walking 100 feet and up went his leg. I looked to see if he stepped on something and had it caught in his paw or something since it is a wooded area but nothing.

He now has less Range of Motion then he did when he originally got hurt. His knee cap is in place but his hip will barely budge and it is so tight. I carried him back to the car, and brought him home, I gave him a pain pill which he totally just foams out of his mouth and I called the Vet to see how long am I supposed to expect this behavior.  When should he at least be able to walk a small amount.

We are back to NO weight baring at all for a few days. Back to pain medications and he may need further testing on his hip.

I am afraid I am going to have to put him in his crate, I just can't carry him around all day and he will not stay off his feet, he will walk on it till he can't and then he just lifts it and hobbles.

I started off putting him in his crate for five minutes, he didn't make one sound he just stood there. When I got him out he kissed me like I was gone for a year... I will build up his tolerance to being in a crate again and I hope I learned my lesson to never ever uncrate train a dog.... It is such a safe place for them and he loved it so much and I for my selfish reasons decided against keeping him in a crate.

Oh well back to square one... If anyone has any advice on how to get him used to being in a crate again, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

No words of wisdom, just all my sympathy. So sorry for both of you.

Dexter was never crated in his life but now has been for 8 weeks straight due to his knee issue.  I thought it would be hard, but we just put him in there and he was generally ok.  The first few days (we took turns working at home for a week after his srugery) we spent a lot of time sitting on the ground next to the crate with the door open.  Then we had to go back to work and luckily he was ok with it all.

We put one of his favorite bones in with him and bought him a crate bed to make him comfy.

Good luck!
