Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

That's what a vet tech said this morning, when the conversation in the examination room turned to hairy ears.  The vet hastily said, "Or the best!"  But this comment by the vet tech was just a reminder of how polarized opinions seem to be about our doodles.  The first groomer I took Trav to informed me that she couldn't understand why anybody would mate two perfectly fine breeds to create a...labradoodle.  (I could almost hear what she REALLY wanted to say instead of labradoodle.)  That groomer shaved Trav's nose, not once but twice--even though I specifically asked one time that he just be bathed, not clipped or trimmed in any way.  We don't go there any more.

I know there have been discussions before about how people react to labradoodles and goldendoodles.  Seems to be love 'em or hate 'em.  But nobody has ever said 'the worst of both breeds' in my presence before.  Trav was there too, but he didn't care.  :)

Has anybody else's doodle been called something derogatory?  And why do people think it's okay to make comments like that to a dog's owner?

That is just so uninformed. There are just as many overbred purebred dogs out there with less than stellar temperments or health. But I guess it is just an opinion, although rude to say in front of someone who might be offended by it.

I posted a picture of our puppy (she arrives Monday!) on my Facebook page a while back. My vet (who is an acquantince/almost friend and a "friend" on FB) wrote and said "Doodles are amazing dogs. You should get a great new family member in her," and that she couldn't wait to meet her.

I think there are more fans out there than detractors. Maybe doods should adopt the motto, "Don't hate me because I am beautiful." lol  Trav is a handsome dood!

oh oh that is great too - just say that "don't hate him/her because she's beautiful. I like!
Thanks, Nic!  Congrats on your new puppy!  I'll be looking for pictures and stories.  Just looking at DK tells me that the doods have a huge and loving fan club.  :)
"Don't hate me because I am beautiful" sounds like a great sweatshirt with a doodle on it!
I had a vet tech say almost exactly that same thing to me! She went further and said that it was scientifically proven that goldendoodles/labradoodles got the worst of both parents. Total bonk! and rude.

and once again YOU ARE A PAYING CUSTOMER, I would so get in her face.

I beg your pardon, what did you just say?!?

Lisa, yes--a paying customer and vet visits ain't cheap!  The vet softened the comment by saying 'and the best..'  so I didn't really have a chance to say anything.  And I was sort of speechless anyhow.  :)

HUH???  Camilla, that's just hard to believe.  And I assume she had Darwin right there in front of her...was she blind along with being totally rude???
In this case though, don't you think the comment was in reference to the hair in the ear canal? Definitely one of the downsides to a Poodle.

if it was she/he needs to be more specific ...supposedly she is educated and should know how to speak without inference.

Hi, Carol!  Yes, that comment did indeed coincide with inspecting Trav's hairy ears.  And believe me, they were hairy as they'd never been plucked.  My bad.  A different tech plucked them, and I was amazed at how long some of the hair was!  I'd tried to do this a couple of times, after reading on DK about it being a part of grooming, but never quite got anything done except training Trav to run when I touched his ears.  :)  He was really good about having it done, though.
How are the ears?  Hope all is okay.  We have one bad one here and it is.... well should I say 'The worst of a Really Good Breed'   :)
