Im looking for suggestions to slow Trixies food Gulping down.
She eats faster then my last dog did & she woofed her food down!
Trixie eats 3 times a day - 1 cup Kibble with Water (water for now since she still does not drink much on her own)
I would say she eats the 1 cup of food in 1 minute. I dont think she chews any of it.
Has any one tried some of the bowls designed to slow down fast eaters...Such as the
Brake Fast Dog Food Bowl?

How old is Trixie and what kind of kibble does she get?
I would stop adding water to her food. Fast eating is one risk factor for bloat, moistening the kibble is another. She might also slow down if the food was drier.
The special bowls do help, but I don't like plastic bowls, which can harbor certain kinds of bacteria. I'd just place a small bowl upside down inside her regular food dish, which works just as well to slow them down. (Any time they have to eat around something, it helps to slow them down.)
Hi Karen,
Trixie will be 3 months on Saturday.
I am feeding her Chicken Soup.
I dont like adding water to her food because of the risk of bloat ( My Sringer Bloated 4 times-Even with all the Things we did to try to prevent it from recuring)
If I dont add water to her food. She probably only drinks a few tablespoons a day of water.
After I posted I did think I should try a small upside down bowl in a larger ceramic dish. I am going to try it tomorrow morning.
You can try adding a little bit of low-sodium chicken broth to her water, that might help.
I am already adding low sodium chicken broth to her water...Which has helped. before that she would not drink any ( She drank her water fine the 1st 2 weeks she was here)
I think I started adding a scant teaspoon of broth to her water about a week ago.
Pam, try washing the water bowl with soap and water if you aren't already doing that regularly, and try keeping her water really cold...some dogs like that better.
You might also try giving her ice; some dogs love that.
I use a metal slow feed bowl for Cooper. it slowed her down from 30 seconds to about almost 3 minutes. She eats raw food slower than kibble, so when she has kibble we often give it her in a toy which really helps (though she figured it out in 2 seconds!)

there are many different toys out there. You can also buy metal balls (dont harbour germs) to put in bowls
I probably dont wash her bowl often enough. I will start washing it daily.
When she stopped drinking water out of her main dish...I had just washed it in the dish washer. So I wash by hand now.
But her 2nd water dish I had washed by hand & she stopped drinking it out of that also.
Last week she did not like the ice cubes. Yesterday my DD & I gave her 2 again & She liked them more. So we will give them to her also.
I tried the can in her bowl this am...It did slow her down to 2 minutes- I timed her- LOL...And she did seem to gulp alot less too.
That is an interesting bowl Kaytlin.
you can also spread the food out over a big cookie sheet, this will slow her down too.
As for getting her to drink more, I dont have any ideas that havent already been suggested
