Ginger eats Blue..puppy lamb and oatmeal....and she has soft stool.  When she was on EUK. things came out just fine.  She also gets some carrots everyday  and a Kong with PB once a week.

I have read conflicting things about pumpkin...some sites say it softens, some sites say it firms up..so I am confused.

Is there anything I can add that will help?

Thanks

Canned pumpkin provides fiber, which helps regulate stool consistency; it will help firm up soft stools and also help soften stools that are too firm.

We have lots of info on this is The Food Group.

Thanks..I will check there

I recomend adding pumpkin or rice to her food.
White or brown rice?

NOT brown; if you use rice, the white kind is starchier and more binding.

However, I'd go with the pumpkin; it's much lower in calories and you won't be adding more starch to her diet.

We have added Pumpkin to Trixies food to help firm up her soft stools.  it has really helped & She loves it.

I add a teaspoon...sometimes once a day sometimes 3 times (with each meal)...if things are looking really soft.

I freeze it in Teaspoon size on a tray...Then store it in a zip lock bag.  Zap it for 20 seconds to thaw.

She sometimes is called Pumpkin head...because she will finish eating with an Orange nose :o

Is Trixie a small doodle? I think a teaspoon would be just enough to get on my doodles beards before it even got into their mouths. lol.  I give a heaping tablespoon 2 times a day when we have poop issues. They love it.
Trixie is small right now-Shes still growing  Sue- about 22# at 3.5 months

Peri ALWAYS had soft stools when she had pb in her kong.....just an fyi.

My doodle has struggled with soft mushy stools for months on and off.  The Vet ruled out everything possible and put my puppy on everything possible from the time she was 4 months old including Prednisone.  Well now she is almost 10months old and through much googling, talking to anyone and everyone and listening to advise, I have taken absolutely everything away from her except her dogfood.  She is now on Wysong Epigen Fish.  She also can tolerate Epigen chicken.  I can also give her Wysong's Uncanny Seafood. She could not eat the Wysong canned dog food.  Now, i am not trying to advertise for wysong, but after trying many many very good brand dog food's, Wysong is the only food that has finally, for the past month now firmed her stools.  But let me once again tell you, I took EVERYTHING ELSE away...all treats, all edible chews, rolled rawhides...now she can have fresh veggies, like cukes, cauliflower, peapods.  I can give her a little banana, and other fruits but I only give her a few.

I can't say enough about NOT giving the treats with all the additives in them.  Plus they all have different proteins that I believe now are very hard for the puppies to digest.

So, do yourself a favor and learn from all my frustration, vet visits, poo testing, and long hours trying to learn all about dog foods.

I didn't think i could take everything away(it was so much fun to give her treats when she was training) but she is fine.  I give her deer antlers & lots of toys to chew.  Plus I brush her teeth every single night.

Pumpkin I doubt will harm her...I went that route too,  I did the yogurt, the digestive enzymes, rice, boiled chicken, potatoes.

Good luck...they are well worth the trouble.  PS.Wysong has a site and you can e-mail the head tech and let her know what is going on with your puppy and she will get back with you.

Joani-Im glad you finally found something that works for her!

Yes, I was actually getting very very worried about her.  And when their poo is soft and mushy, they cannot express their anal glands...so needless to say she's had to have that done 4 times already!  Thanks for your kind words.
