Giving dogs raw marrow bones is new to me but I'm going to treat Bocelli to one. I know my breeder gives them to her dogs and Bo has already had the 'pleasure' of chewing on raw bones. I have read some of the older discussions here about marrow bones but here's my question: Since the bones are all bloody in the bag (Yuck) do I rinse them off with water first? There's no meat on these honkesr but they are filled with marrow. My breeder said marrow is too rich for puppies so I should remove the marrow before giving it to him.
I bought 2 good size bones yesterday from the butcher. I'm think I should throw them in the freezer as Bo won't be home for another week but I'm not quite sure what to do with them before freezing. Some of you have filled the bones with peanut butter and then put them in the freezer. Is peanut butter too rich for an 11 week=old puppy?

Do you boil them because you are killing the germs or for making the bone softer? I have always given Jack his raw, unboiled from the freezer and then when he is done with it, I boil it scrape out the marrow and use the bone to fill with peanutbutter.
Jack is not a huge fan of it, I am wondering if he would like it better after it was boiled for 40 minutes??? The ones from publix sound great.
I give him the bone raw, he chews on it for a little bit and is done with it, Honestly the only way I can get him to eat a bone for a longer period of time is to give him and someone else's dog a bone marrow bone at the same time. Then he will go to town. I also give my neighbors dogs bones and let them chew on it for a bit and then take it back and give it to Jack, he likes he such much better with another dog scent on it.
I don't do anything with the marrow, Should I scrape it out and put it in his food?
