Yesterday I took Sheba to the vet because she was limping on her right front leg.  (She has done this before but vet didn't find anything torn or broken).  She plays pretty hard and she's the kind of dog that doesn't stop, always has to be busy.

Recently I noticed some slight changes in her walking and trying to stand up from a sitting or lying down position. It didn't happen all the time, just when she had played hard.  I thought maybe it had more to do with her activity level and how hard she would play and that it was probably was due to sore muscles.

I did some reading on hip dysplasia on the internet and became more concerned.  I also checked into Lyme's Disease as I have found a couple of ticks on Sheba, but that was last year.  The vet said that when Sheba got her yearly heartworm test they test for Lymes and she was negative so her mobility issues were probably not due to Lymes.

Vet put Sheba on Previcox (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug) for 7 days to see if that helps her.  If her limping on her front leg gets worse I need to take her back in.  The plan is to get her hips and back x-rayed soon along with her front leg if the problem persists.

It would just break my heart if my sweet, beautiful, athletic, happy-go-lucky girl has hip dysplasia.

I know there are other members here that have dogs with this condition.  Anything you could share would be helpful.  I'll keep you all informed.

Hugs to you and Sheba.  I hope it is a temporary overuse injury.

Has the vet mentioned bursitis?  Inflammation of the shoulder joint.  It is helped with a cortisone injection, NSAIDs and glucosamine/chondriotin.  That's the treatment I am on...

No bursitis mentioned.  She isn't limping much on her front leg anymore.   She is still having the HD symptoms in her hind end.  In the next couple of weeks I am hoping to get x-rays done.  I hope you are feeling better soon Melissa.  (I have had bursitis in my elbow and it was very painful.) Thanks for posting!
I am Beemer's Mom.....I am sending prayers and very positive energy to you and Sheba through this trial.  Beemer started with a limp in December 2009 (just before his 1st birthday)....the vet put him on drugs through December and we went back in January 2010....did the x-rays....didn't look good to the vet....saw an orthopedic surgeon.....Beemer needed the surgery....quickly....1st hip in February and 2nd hip in March.....they had to rotate each hip 40%....turns out the little guy had this pain all along....doctor promised...by June, Beemer will be acting like it never happened....he was so right....Beemer is 100% and the most loving, joyous and energy filled "pup" you would ever want to meet.....the moral to this story....it is not anything you or your pup wants to go through (physically or financially) but the surgery and recovery  is priceless when you no longer see that limp....my blessings to you and please read Beemers blog on our page.....any questions....just ask....
Thank you for posting Penny.  Oh, your family and Beemer have been through so much!  I'm so glad he is doing so well (YAY!!) and it gives me hope for Sheba, in a worse case scenario.  I am still hoping she doesn't have HD but whatever it is she has, it's not going away. I need to do some research to see the best place to go for her x-rays. (I am happy to report that her front leg is doing better and hopefully she just pulled a muscle.)  I'll be sure to contact you with any questions I may have if in fact Sheba does have HD.  Thanks again Penny!
Ann, we are sending our prayer your way.... I hope she is just sore and does not have Hip Dysplasia....

Oh no, I hope it turns out to be just sore muscles

I dont know if you can get a product called Recovery where you live. its a local company to me but it works wonders (I take it and know many dogs on it)

Ann, I am so sorry to hear that Sheba is have problems.  I hope it is over-use rather than joint related.  Keep us posted.

When we were doing agility, at our first trial, some one said they thought Murphy might have hip dysplasia from his doodle walk. I immediately had his hips X-rayed and checked. Vet said they were fine but I chose to stop agility because Murphy is 100 lbs. and jumping can't be good for him.  However, I cannot stop his "normal" jumping and playing at home.

Sending hugs to you and Miss Sheba.

Oh Ann, I hope this is not the case.  I will keep a good thought for you and beautiful Sheba.
Oh no!  I hope this is not the case.  I will keep my fingers crossed for you. She's such a beautiful girl.
I'm so sorry to hear of Sheba's pain issues. I hope it is something easily treated. She is in our prayers!
I'll be sending you good thoughts, vibes and prayers that it's nothing serious. Just looking at that face makes me melt.
