I live in HOT HOT Florida and both Lowe's and Home Depot have concrete floors so they allow anyone to bring thier dogs inside-no matter what size dog. This is a fun spot for cooler walking and socialization of the dog. I saw many dogs and asked the stores customer service and they said people bring

thier dogs in there all the time. Just an FYI.

I take mine to HD for training now and then.  They are not technically allowed, but so far nobody has said a thing.
It's great!  I wonder if they do the same in the Northeast?  I'll have to give them a call.  I love HD and Lowes but I'll love them even more if they let us bring our pooch shopping with us.  I hate leaving her in the car anyway and I certainly wouldn't do so on a hot day!!
Nancy,  We're in NH and Lowe's has always welcomed dogs here.  HD turned us away, but that was well over and year ago.   I may give HD another try.  Maybe it was just the one store we went to - there's another one close by I'll try.
Adina, are you sure dogs aren't 'technically allowed' at HD and Lowes? When Lucy was small I remember calling HD and Lowes to ask if they allowed dogs in and they both said yes. So that makes me wonder. We take Lucy to both frequently, on those dark, rainy days when we can't get to the indoor dog park. We always find something we need there too, even when we don't go with something in mind.
Correct.  There's no HD policy that I know of that makes dogs allowed at ALL HD's.  It's probably a store by store policy difference.  The store here doesn't allow them technically but still allows them in practice.  I wouldn't ask 1st...just ask forgiveness later and be prepared to be asked to leave.

A greeter was bitten in the face at a Home Depot not long ago (here in Canada) - not sure, but I read that they may be changing the rules to not allow dogs anymore.

From my perspective it was mostly the greeter's fault though... small dog was in a cart, she bent down face first.  Who greets an unfamiliar dog face first?

I had called both locations before posting, and also was told they do allow them. But as another poster just mentioned

here is an article from April saying their rules may change.

Home Depot Reviews Pet Rules

Dogs could be banned at Home Depot stores after an employee said she was bitten by a Shih Tzu last Friday.

Anne Riel says she bent down slightly to pet a dog in a customer's cart at the Gloucester store when it leapt and bit her nose.

Riel says she spent six hours in hospital for treatment after the incident, and will need “lots more” plastic surgery.

Bylaw Services has reportedly fined the owner of the dog and ordered the Shih Tzu to be muzzled in public at all times.

Home Depot says the chain allows pets in its stores as long as they are under the owner's control.

But the company says it is reviewing its policy on pets, and only service animals could be allowed inside the stores.

Interesting...this report does make it sound like all chains let dogs in.
I was in 2 different Lowes, today.  Both in the northern Utah area.  Greeters and other employees were wonderful and wanting to pet Brulee and know about her.  Sure do hope their policy doesn't change due to that unfortunate incident!
Webber and I got thrown out of Home Depot...seems someone's dog bit someone so they banned all dogs.  But Lowe's welcomes dogs, so we go there.  They even had a free BBQ last month and invited Webber and I to have lunch!  We live in North Carolina.
