Bernie is going to be a year old in 2 days and my husband is mildly concerned with the fact that he still "pees like a girl". Anyone out there with older, male Doodles that still pee like girls? It honestly doesn't bother me - less room for error, he's never had a marking issue, and he can/will go anywhere!

I guess I'm just asking so I can tell my husband whether there's still hope or if he should just get used to it =)

my 2.5 year old doodle Darwin still pees like a girl too.  he will lift his leg to mark the occasional irresistible tree, but the real pee's (morning and when i get home from work) are serious squats, lol.
So whats the problem?  LOL  Rooney is 9 months and pees like a girl and I love it.  Who needs the leg lift or the marking?  Not me!!!  Must be a guy thing huh?
Must be a guy thing! I love it too Jane! And I've seen Bernie do the same "serious squat" Darwin =)
Toby is 2 1/2 and squats, too. The only time he lifts his leg is when he smells a spot on a bush or tree that another dog has marked and he tries to "top" it. :)

LOL...these macho men. I'm convinced the lifting the leg is not the "norm".

Lucca lifts his leg out in public, on walks, etc. At home he squats. It's kind of like he doesn't have to prove his "manliness" at home..haha. I prefer squatting as then they don't mark as much. It's a royal pain to smell every bush and tree and grass and sidewalk...you get the picture!!!

Ben, our 9 yo golden retriever still squats!!

Barley Barker is 1.5 years old and he has never lifted his leg, even on walks. I think this is probably normal for neutered male dogs.
Jasper is 22 months old and still squats in the backyard but when he is out on a walk and there are other dogs around he will lift his leg even if there isn't a tree or bush there.
Darwin has never lifted his leg, he still squats. And he's over 2 years old... :-)
2.5yo Boomer squats too but will lift a leg on a long walk (like Sorana said) but yeh - still acting like a girl!
Gavin at 21 mons. is still a squater.  He has recently begun to lift his leg occasionally (not very high though lol) when we are on walks.
Huff is almost two (one more month to go) and he squats but sometimes he feels the urge to lift his leg. Bernie will probably learn how someday. I like it because he doesn't feel the need to mark everything and anything. He is reliable not to pee on anything but plants. Actually, he doesn't pee on anything but plants. He won't pee if there are no plants. It is also a good thing because we own a grooming shop and lot's of dogs mark things there (we always always keep our shop very clean though, some people have even remarked on how it doesn't even smell doggy) and if Huff was a marker, imagine all the big puddles we would have in there. haha:)

Why do men seem to think male dogs need to lift their leg to pee.  Do men always stand to pee, NOOOO!  Some male dogs are just more modest than others.  Men need to get over it.  Boy that feels better.

I've noticed if my dogs have been neutered before they start lifting their leg they tend to squat.  All my dogs squatted until I adopted an older male dog that lifted his leg.  Then slowly the other dogs started lifting even the females.  For them it was a learned behavior not an instinct.

Bernie is perfect in every way.
