Bernie is going to be a year old in 2 days and my husband is mildly concerned with the fact that he still "pees like a girl". Anyone out there with older, male Doodles that still pee like girls? It honestly doesn't bother me - less room for error, he's never had a marking issue, and he can/will go anywhere!

I guess I'm just asking so I can tell my husband whether there's still hope or if he should just get used to it =)

excellent point!  there are a couple of female dogs in my neighbourhood who lift their leg, so what does that say about it being a "manly trait"?  nothing, that's what :)
Our breeder told us that if they don't hang around male dogs that "lift", they may never pick it up. Sure enough, our doodle didn't lift his leg until about 8 months old, after spending time around an older male dog who lifted. Now he mostly lifts, but not always. Either way is fine with me, actually. Has Bernie spent quality time with "lifters" yet?

Kona is four. He pees like a girl. Just this year he started sort of lifting his leg when he is out and about. Probably because he is marking where another male dog lifted his leg. He never lifts his leg in our back yard.

Casper is almost 2 (in September) and still pees like a girl. He actually lifted his leg for the 1st time last week, but it was the only time I've ever seen it - oh well, no big deal, right?!

I had a 13 year old lab that never lifted his leg and my 9 month old Doodle has never either. I read somewhere

if you neuter them young they may never lift their leg.

Webber was neutered at 7 weeks.  He lifted his leg for the first time when he was 1.5 years old.  Now he squats 8-10 times and lifts his leg when he is peeing against the fence or on a bush.  I am not sure neutering has much to do with it.
Both my doodles (males, one 5 years old, and one 11 months) pee like girls most of the time.  I think it is just a habit they get into.  Once in a while they may raise a leg, but their run is on a hill, and they keep their balance better by standing on both back legs.
I was wondering the same thing! Jake just turned 8 months and has not once tried to lift his leg... I've been waiting for the day mainly because he has a gross habit of peeing on his front legs!!!  He likes to twist and turn looking for squirrels while doing his business and it get's everywhere!  The funniest thing about the squatting still though is sometimes he just full out sits on the ground and then it really goes everywhere... never seen a dog do that before!  Do the rest of your males who squat have a problem with their hair matting on their belly from getting wet/licking themselves clean?  Jake may just be a little messier than most...
Sorry to say that it sounds like Jake might be a bit messy. My guys don't spray themselves. You made me laugh though!
I sympathize with you Heather. Sometimes Barley pees on his front feet, and his belly does get a little messy.
Trav is 1.5 years old, neutered young, and has never lifted his leg to pee.  He doesn't squat, just stretches way out and sort of bends his back legs a little bit.  It actually looks sort of cute.  :)
That's what Ben, our Golden Retriever does:=)
